I have a planet bike alias lighting system on my bars. But with an hour commute each way, and dark about to be the predominant forecast for the next 5 months. Was looking at adding a helmet light also.

Living in the pacific northwest, where rain is also about to be the predominant forecast for the next 5 months, i was going to get a helmet cover. Keep my head drier, warmer.

The 2 dont seem to go together. I can pick up Night Hawk systems for 1/2 price all week (100 bucks canadian). Phoenix or Viper are the 2 systems i can get for cheap. Both have a helmet mount.

For slightly more cash (120 bucks canadian) i can get a Night Rider Trailrat.

So any idea on a helmet mounted light with a helemt cover ?

It works quite well. If you read my reply to your other posting,a jacket with hood will alliviate the need for a cover.

As for combining a cover/hood with a head light;best thing I could say would be to MacGuyver some kind of mount off the front of your helmet,or just get a headband flashlight. PrincetonTech makes a 1W LS headlamp that's waterproof and would prolly work over the top of the cover/hood.

I just picked-up a Petzl headlamp for camping which I'm thinking of rigging to my helmet for some extra lighting.

you may need to make 2 very small slits in the cover to attach the light. The openings will need to re-enforced with sewing or some sort of heavy tape to prevent the slit from ripping.

I'm happy with the Petzl MYO XP, and use it nightly on my way into work.

Just a precautionary note: If HID headlamps are going to be used, these units get pretty hot. Just take extra care in rigging up the combination helmet cover and the helmet mounted lighting.

Oh good plan with the precaution, although the flaming head look may catch on as a fasion statement. And it WILL add more light !

Ya im afraid i'll either have to cut the helmet cover, or skip the helmet light.

Heh, nice setup there. I guess it can be done. How secure does that Petzl feel? I have the XP one step down from yours so the batteries are in the front (nothing but strap in the back).

I suppose someone needs to tell you this. Helmets are generally worn on the head, not on your knee. According to the song, a banjo goes there instead.

Ok, found my solution. Although i'll still have to be carefull about the light melting the cover.

Looks like that mount can be half installed, then cover put on, then instalation finished without any cutting holes in my cover.
