Sigh..robbed
Believe it or not someone took the lights off my bike today while I was at work.
Jeez. |
The front and the back? That really sucks!! Well at least they didn't rob your bike.
|
I'm about to put lights on my bike. I was thinking of leaving them on... but they'll be coming in with me now. Sorry to hear, I can't beleive people sometimes. What's sad is they probably know you or at least who you are. Be glad they didnt take/destroy anything else.
|
Where was the bike??
|
I believe it. I don't leave anything on my bike, not even for a minute.
Sorry to hear about that, bro. Don't trust nuthin' but God and a dollar from now on. Koffee |

Jeez. I had to ride home in the dusky, rainy evening without a front light. I wasn't annoyed at losing the A$5 light, it was the fact that someone else had so little regard for my safety that really got to me. I had a slow, careful ride home yesterday...... This morning, everything came off the bike and into the office with me. Some people just suck! |
It's good to install stuff permanently. I use the supplied bracket and then add a zip tie or some sort of wire to prevent quick removals.
Warning: For stuff like the seat-post racks, your LBS repair guy may complain because extra stuff makes it hard for them to service the bike. |
Did they take the bracket or just the light? Kinda useless w/o the bracket unless they were replacing something stolen off their bike. Or they needed a flashlight.
|
Sorry to hear about the loss. Every time I read one of these threads about stolen bikes and/or accessories, it makes me thankful I get to bring my bike into the office with me.
Sorry again, man. |
Consider it a blessing in disguise. You now know there are thieves on the prowl in your area, but cost of that lesson was quite low considering they didn't take the entire bike.
|
I still want to know, was this locked outside, inside?
|
I fit lamps on a bracket bolted to the frame/fork/rack.
I used to remove my lamps every time but eventually you will drop one and it will shatter. |
dayum
I strip my bike down even if I have to run in ` run out real quit in a store... Pain in the butt at times, but I always ask myself.... ... "How much would it COST to replace this stuff?" EVERYTIME I LOCK IT UP! You just have to ask that same question... |
My lights are bolted to the front fork, so they'd need a wrench or socket to remove them. They'd also need some sidecutters to cut all the zipties. Oh, and the custom battery pack that's required to run the lights.
Oh yeah, these are homebrew lights, so I doubt they're much of a target in the first place.... |
I forgot to take my lights off this morning. Just a cheap $3 LED. I ran outside to take it off just before I read this thread. Also got a coffee. :)

They took the brackets too which means they either had tools or broke it off. I've decided to move the bike into the empty office next to mine. |

My lights, seat bag, pump all clip off my bike in less then a few seconds so I always bring them with me when I lock my bike up somewhere. Luckily I get to keep my bike inside at work.
|
People snitch lights, sad but true. Try owning a motorcycle/scooter in Honolulu, you go through a lot of mirrors. Or, the thieves do. You just get new ones periodically.
|
I left my giant ocr touring on a bike rack with the ultegra levers sticking out, disc brakes, my niterider tail light and my large saddle pack for about 90 minutes while I went to the gym twice. It was all there when I got out... Lucky?
|
I'm guessing the people stealing bike lights aren't real thieves. They're probably kids who wouldn't know an aero brake lever from an Ultegra brifter.
