Backpack commuters, it's our time!

Colder weather ==> having the backpack keeps us warmer than our rack / messenger bag friends. That is all. :D

pinkrobe 10-17-05 04:13 PM

Oh yeah! :)

You're not already warm enough while cycling? (I'm the guy you see with steam pouring off his head at the stopsign.)

Treespeed 10-17-05 04:30 PM

You obviously don't have a big enough Messenger bag.
I could practically nap in Bailey Bag.

noisebeam 10-17-05 04:33 PM

My messenger bag keeps me cooler in the summer as it shades me from the sun. Helmet does the same. I am quite serious.

Solidarity, brother. Off the head, hands, back. I got my own weather system.

pedex 10-17-05 04:52 PM

your backpack wont carry much, my messenger bag will..........do you have a 3300cubic inch backpack, and will it keep your stuff dry in a downpour?

Boudicca 10-17-05 04:55 PM

How many liters is that?

61 cubic inches=1 liter, but it will hold more than that cause you can leave the lid open too

here's a pic:

thats 9 2 liter bottles in it, it will hold a few more

Boudicca 10-17-05 05:04 PM

I must admit I'd hate to ride any distance with 9 2-liter bottles (18kg/40+ pounds) on my back. A change of clothes and a few papers is enough for me.

But that's pretty impressive.

pedex 10-17-05 05:06 PM

its part of the job, if I cant haul a 50lb box of copy paper the bag is useless to me

rpc180 10-17-05 07:27 PM

Whoa, that looks really heavy. Even with the space, I would hope you only use that to carry pillows :)

Oh Pshaw! Here's how I carry 9 2Liter bottles as well as raft of other stuff AND I'm guanteed to stay warm hauling this around without getting just my back sweaty.

For some reason, I use a mammoth Ice climbing backpack and as such, my backpack can also hold 9 2L bottles :D
Maybe a little less actually. I should try it!

1600cuin, made of waterproof sailcloth with the fancy waterproof zippers. Weighs next to nothing. I don't know what I'd do with twice the capacity except get a sore back. ;)

I hauled a 50lb box of tax records yesterday about 2 miles, its part of the job. One of my other custoners is a court reporting agency, I haul depositions for them, which are like little 8"x11" books, sometimes a stack of them 3 feet tall. You get used to it, I work for a living, being a messenger means work plain and simple. Im like a pack mule sometimes.

Im also car free, today was grocery shopping after work, the bag does that too.

ya, but you cant carry that stuff with you w/o the bike

I can lock up my bike and make a delivery while carrying my load so it doesnt get ripped off by thieves, cool trailer though.

That means you're not wearing your mess bag high enough. :p

How about this? 7000 cubic inches.

wont work, waist strap--------ive tried reg backpacking backpack once, you cant cinch the waist strap and bend over and ride very well, so all the weight is on your shoulders, its too long

Do you know the mad Scot? If you don't get the joke, please review The Aussie Thread, Part 3. I'm sure he's posted recently.

Man your bag is SMALL. :) I can get 2 cases of beer in mine... in bottles. Plus the hookers!

bostontrevor 10-18-05 12:20 AM

If you can load up your bag and still breathe, it ain't big enough!
