I miss my bike

So I slept in today and wasn't able to commute in on my bike. I work in an office where I'm allowed to park my bike right in my cube with me. I kind of tuck it into a recessed corner and it's mostly out of the way and easy to miss if you're not looking for it.

Anyway, I've been commuting fairly regularly (4-5 times/week) and thoughout the day, I routinely turn around and catch a peek at my bike. It's not intentional, although every time I glance at it I remember that I'm proud of my commuting habit and it makes me smile. Since it's not sitting in its regular location, every time I look that direction I'm almost spooked that it's not there.

I miss my bike and I almost believe it misses me, sitting lonely in the cold garage.

This is quite the sickness I have.

Heh, I know the feeling. I love having the folder with me in my office. Quite a conversation starter, too.

I have a similar situation at work. Except with a small cube, so the bike takes up most of one wall. You can't help but notice it walking by. I agree that it's a good conversation starter.

I also wasn't able to bike yesterday once I woke up late feeling under-the-weather. But "distance makes the heart grow fonder" and the occassional bus/train/car trip just increase my motivation to ride as much as possible. Riding in today I had a renewed appreciation for two-wheeled travel.

I had similar feelings while I drove in this morning...At first, when I realized that I had slept in, I sort of welcomed the break from the commute. Then when I was in the car actually coming in, I felt disgusted that I didn't wake up sooner so I would be spared of the cage that I found myself in. I'm finding that it's not that I hate cars, I just love my bike commute so much.

I almost can't wait for Monday.
