Good legs

I have my morning legs and my "good legs".

I've found in the mornings, when I'm leaving out, my legs feel a little achy at times and I just spend time spinning and trying to keep a fast cadence and low gears. But for some reason, when I'm headed home, I feel like I could spin my flippin' legs off and no one can touch me. Absolutely no fatigue, no soreness, etc.

Maybe I just want to get away from work that bad?

Just wait until you get old like me! My legs ache when I first set out, but within a mile or two they loosen up. I also notice that, even though I'm in good shape, I now make those grunty noises when I get out of a chair.

I'm right there with ya. Going in just isn't as enjoyable as comming out. Less to worry about, i guess.

Koffee, I'm just the opposite. No problems in the morning but after work, the first mile or so just about does me in.

I usually feel a lot stronger in the afternoon, but I think it's just because I get out the door so early. I wake up at 5AM and am pedalling by 5:20. My muscles are still asleep.

There are days when I just walk around feeling like superman, I feel just mighty and like nothing can touch me, but it's not at any special time of the day.

I've been wondering the same thing myself lately. Seems that it's the first two miles of the day that are the hardest. After that I guess my muscles are warmed up and ready to go.. but some days, those first two miles I feel like I just dont have it.

On some tours I was doing, where a 100 mile day was norm, it would take me 20 or so miles to get the kinks worked out... the other 80 or so were a breeze then...

Not that old, just several tens of thousand miles on the ole legs...

Or as I like to say, rode hard and put up wet way too many times!

It takes me longer to get warmed up than it did 5-6 years ago. Back then I would commute around 10 miles each way from Manhattan to NJ, and I'd be flying after the first 2-3 minutes in the morning. These days I don't really feel warmed-up for a good 20 minutes or so on the morning commute. Evenings have never required much warm-up, at least not yet.

Edit: well that was true until last week. <sigh> (I'm a *cough* full-time student again *cough*)

I got two nice little hills as soon as a I start out on Lex. so hitting those cold sucks. By the time I do the first mile though I'm warmed up so getting to work sucks cuz I'm done w/ my ride, but ready to go farther.

When I start out in the morning, my knees feel tight and pop a few times in the first 100 meters. After that I feel great but it's a bit disconcerting. Must have something to do with my time in the Army. Those bastards cost me 10% of my hearing too!

Depends on the route, doesn't it? It's downhill on the way in, and uphill on the way back. Way in is faster. But I often feel stronger on the way back.

Nah, it's just what I call "morning weakness". I'm like that in the mornings as well.

One of my past jobs required what was considered "constant heavy lifting"...basically I picked up and inspected 40lb parts in my hands all day long...hundreds of them. Well, in the mornings I just could not keep up...but once 1:00 rolls around, I was running like lightning.

I think it's part due to the extended leack of activity called sleep, as well as the long period without water or food intake during that sleep.

i'm evenings too. on the other hand, my evening ride gives me a much better warmup before the climbing begins - 2.5k on the flat, compared with half a block of very very slight uphill in the mornings. i can do that 2.5 in about the same time it takes me to cover about 1k in the morning, even when i haven't eaten all day at work. getting more sleep seems to help with the morning thing, but i haven't done that often enough to confirm any trends. i have noticed it's much more about the muscles than the lungs. it's kind of frustrating that way.

Today I was going into work, and the legs felt better, but the wind was so strong it hardly mattered anyway.

Amen sister... Holy cow. We had a steady 18mph wind with gusts up to who knows what yesterday. I managed 8 mph on about half my trip home. Cuts both ways of course, on the way in I coasted for almost a mile at 19-20 mph.

I guess I'm a bit slower in the morning too. My best time is in the evening, after dark. I absolutely love riding then, and I feel like I could go for hours. I should build a special "night bike" covered in lights just for this purpose...
