Commuting to/from Vacation Home
Is riding from a vacation home to a weekday home considered commuting? I think so, as Merriam-Webster defines "commute" as "to travel back and forth regularly (as between a suburb and a city)". I do go to my vacation home regularly, although not as regularly as I go to work. :(
Anyway, regardless of what you call it, tomorrow I'll be riding the 75 miles from my vacation home to my weekday home. It will be mostly downhill, since I'll be starting at 6000 feet elevation and ending at sea level. If I'm lucky, I might also even have a tailwind most of the way! |
In case anyone cares, my "commute" home today went well. The big challenge was dressing for the initial 40 mph downhill in 32 degree temperatures, while having to deal with forecasted temperatures in the high 80s at the end of the ride. Trash bag shoe covers and vest worked rather well. Total time was 4 hr 45 min, with on bike time of 4 hr.

sounds fun! I've been thinking about doing a similar thing- riding the 60 miles between the place I stay most weekends, and the place I stay during the week. I probably won't get around to it, though, because it would require having my good bike around and I don't think I'm up to doing the round trip in a weekend, with all the time it would take.

From what I read, going back TO the cottage will take longer.
