I've got this light for sometime now. Been looking for a more powerful replacement but don't want to spend the amount of money required for it. I found this site on the net where they sell replacement bulbs for headlights.
My headlight has a 2,4w bulb on this site I can buy a 3w bulb but what really caught my eye was a 6w bulb. Will I have trouble with excessive heat if I buy the 6w.
The hl-1600 brings 1000mah batteries I was thinking of buying 2300mah in order to have some decent run time.

3or 6 watts does not sound too hot. Try the 6 watt bulb outside but do not ride the first time. Just turn it on and keep feeling the bulb holder. If it gets too hot to touch use a weaker bulb. Will the stronger batteries fit in the battery holder? Most headlights will not fit larger batteries. 6 watts AND larger batteries> Jist get a new bike headlight,.

By installing a higher wattage lamp, you run the risk of over-rating the wiring and other electrical components inside your headlight, which is a fire hazard. Ken's advice is good--but check for excessive temperature on the entire light.

Electrical devices are generally over-engineered in terms of the wiring in order to provide a safety factor, but it's a question of how much. It could be a little or a lot.

I wouldn't worry about a "fire hazard" on a disposable battery powered bike light that uses 6 watts. Yeah there'll be a fire but it probably won't burn your bike down..

If you're really hell bent on modifying it, for 30 bucks, get a LED luxeon drop in for that bright white light.

Where can I get that LED luxeon?

Searched the net found lots of luxeon leds but haven't been able to find that type of led bulb.

Will produce a lot more light than a 6w halogen bulb?

Does anyone know how would the 6w led compare to a 6w halogen?

EverLED is another brand -- top notch 1w luxeion, no heat issues, can take various voltages.

I tried one of the Tek-Tite 1w luxeons for my Petzl Duo but was sadly dissapointed and sent it back.

EverLED cyans are even better.

You might want to post same question on flashlight/torch enthusiast websites like candlepowerforums, etc.

1 watt luxeons vary greatly as to color and output, you'd want to know about this headlamp compared to others like the Busch and Muller similar product.

As a general matter, even a great lux is only bare-bones lighting, enough for tooling along at 10-15mph on streets, IMO, or as backup.
