Jamis Coda Sport vs. Kona Dew Deluxe

I posted this in General also but I figured I'd post it here to get some more opinions

I'm getting a new bike later this month and I have it narrowed down to these two

what's everyone's opinion? I'll mainly be using it for commuting, but I'll definitely want to take it on some longer rides as well

I own a Coda Comp and a Dew Deluxe(both 05's). If I had to choose just one,it'd be the Kona all the way. The Coda is fast and light, but the Dew is more comfortable and has disc brakes. The Dew is just more versatile. The discs mean you'll have to do a little MacGuyvering to mount accessories, but it'll be worth it. Axiom makes a disc-compatable rack, and Freddy Fenders will mount with a little tweaking.

I'd say go with the Dew,but swap the tires. The 06's have semi-knobs,the 05's had smooth-rolling WTB Slickasauruses. Get a set of those with the reflective sidewalls and you'll be set.

I've got the Coda Elite with disc brakes, Axiom journey disc rack and Freddy Fenders. I love the bike, but the Kona sounds like a great bike. I will check one out one day. WTB Slickasauruses might be my next wheels. I like the idea of reflective sidewalls.

I'm satisfied with my 2004 Dew Deluxe (battleship gray) but I will swap for faster tires. The rubber on it is more suited to off-road. Freddy fenders mounted beautifully with just a bit of tweaking. The disc brakes are a godsend in wet weather. It's a great commuter. Swapped the junky saddle for a Brooks Champion Flyer, and the ride is like buttah.

I ride a Dew Deluxe 2004, bought it because it met my criteria. If find it to be a great commuter. Can't complain, the bike has over 2000K on it and not a single problem. Great in the wet due to the disks, no issues with any of the components. Even find the seat comfortable enough.

paxtonm: WTB Slickasauruses. Trust me,they rock. Try to find the ones with the reflective sidewalls.
