That's what a co-worker, who I don't even know, said to me when she saw me walking into the hospital where I work, totally encrusted in snow and ice and carrying my helmet. She did have a look of fierce hatred in her eyes, and her voice was as cold as the wind I had just ridden through.

What would you say to her? Was she serious? Why would she hate us? Should I sleep with one eye open?

I'm sure she hates people who bike in the summer too. It just happens to be winter now.

Tell her you're a federal agent and you'll have to send her to gitmo.

The proper response to a that statement is, "Have another donut, fatty."

Get her license plate number, wait until she leaves work and anonymously phone the cops and tell them you saw a car with her plate number weaving all over the road - perhaps a drunk driver?

Isn't it nice to know how caring the people that work in hospitals are about other human beans???

Tell her since you know her name, you'll just get her car description and plate number to file an official statement of her quote with the police.

(Many people thought I was crazy when I opined that $5 a gallon gasoline would cause more glass in the bike lane).

First I would say "why?"

She would say "they go too slow and I can't get around them, they are IN MY WAY"

Then I would secretly switch her coffee to decafe every day for about two weeks,
then I would switch it to expresso.

Nothing like sharing the love.
I usually tell folks who gripe about bicycles that it's only 90 seconds or less. I further explain that I've never had someone 'stuck' behind me for 90 seconds. Less than some traffic lights. It's only 90 seconds and three feet to pass.

Go up to her the next time you walk in covered in snow and give her a big ole hug, kiss her on the cheek and say "Awe babe, I love you too...morning!" ...Walk away smiling

I'd grin an ENORMOUS, manic grin, cackle loudly, and say, "Ohmygod, me too. Cyclists are a menace. Why stop at running them over? They should be shot."

Then sashay past her, swinging your helmet and chuckling under your breath.

one of two things. i'd probably smile pleasantly and say in that light-hearted small-talk kind of way 'sucks to be you', since after all we don't always get what we want in this vale of tears. might add a few bars of the rolling stones just to rub the fact in.

or i'd get very sincerely curious. 'do you actually mean that, or was it intended to be some kind of joke?' completely genuine curiosity is a great weapon, if you can manage to come up with it.

Take a 30" cable tie, thread 3" of the end in there so it forms a noose, when she has her back turned, throw it around her neck and yank.
It's quick, no blood, no screams, just walk away.

You should file a report with the personnel manager (HR). Comments like that at work create a hostile work environment.

She may have mental problems you are not aware of, especially since this comment comes from someone you really do not know.
It is possible that others have had similar problems with her and if no one reports them, then the problem never gets solved.

If she does have mental problems, your report may be the first step in her getting the help that she needs.
