Suggestion on lock storage.
 

I'm a daily commuter and errand runner for a total of somewhere between 12- 20 miles per day. I use a chrome messenger, which I love, to carry everything (including my lock) all over town. There are only a few instances where I actually need my lock so I get a little aggravated that I need to have it on my back on day. (Please don't suggest panniers, I've got them and don't like to use them) My waterbottle and pumprack take up the space inside my frame so I'm curious if anyone here is familiar with a way to fix my lock (bulldog) to my rack in a way that is sturdy yet easy to get on and off?

Stick it down the back of your pants.

Have you considered attaching a basket to your rack, and leaving the lock in the basket? I have a 2004 Brute, and leaving it in the basket with even no attachment secures it (it won't fall out, though it sometimes rattles a bit).

Velcro straps? Strategically placed innertube/duct tape will stop it from rattling much.

You can get it through Wayne at The Touring Store. It doesn't show on his website, but give him a call, I believe he has them.

If you have panniers you probably have a rack on your bike? Look carefully at the rack. Along the outside edge of the rack is usually a double bar with a gap of 5/8" to 1". If you lock has a normal size shackle (not a Krypt NY 3000), it should slip right in between these rack bars and sit against the top deck of your rack and your seat stay. You can strap it to your stay if you want to keep it from banging around. I hope the description is clear enough. Play around with it a bit. You'll figure out what I mean. If I was at home I'd post a picture for you.

I've used the Two Fish blocks and they worked, just not that great. For my NY3K I have the lock mount (from Kryptonite) on my seat tube with the lock just over my crankset (U pointing to the crank). It works very well and hasn't caught on anything.

Thanx for the info! I need a better rack for my Trek 520 (currently using the OEM version), and the Locc looks like a near-perfect fit for my case. Unfortunately Wayne doesn't have any available at the moment, but he promised to check with his supplier in the morning. Thankfully, there's no huge rush at the moment. :)

I think you can pick one up at Wal-Mart pretty cheap. However, if you can wait a few weeks, they all go on sale the day after X-mas. :p :p

You have a rack? On my bikes with racks, I have a pair of those elastic bungee cords. Just slip the lock under the cords and go. One of my bikes has no rack. I installed a plastic "clip" over the stem that holds a large handlebar bag. I discovered that most mid-sized u-locks fit around that clip...some locks are so heavy though that they can make the steering feel a bit off. I also can put smaller u-locks in the handlebar bag.

I must not have had my coffee quota yesterday. Rather than sitting against your seat stay, the lock will sit against one of your rack stays. Strap it to the rack stay and it won't move.

I have the TwoFish lock blocks, too and I agree that they are okay, but not great. It's kind of a pain to unstrap/restrap three points instead of one. However, with a flat enough stem, it makes an emergency handlebar rack. I once strapped a car battery charger to my lock, as the truck was dead after a couple of months of winter commuting.

I've done the trick where you slip the lock through the slot in the rack platform and it works pretty well, as long as you have a secure bit of velcro on the rack stay.

When I commute to do errands, I attach my NYC 3000 U-Lock to my top tube, and I do away with my water bottle. When I commute to/from work, I don't carry the U-Lock then I carry a water bottle. I always carry a Krypto Cable Lock 100% of the time. Just in case of a quick trip in a store. When I use the U-Lock I also use the Cable Lock.
