Bicycle Rider Insurance
Does anyone know of an insurance policy for bicyclists and their bikes?
Would I talk to an automobile insurance policy salesman since I'm riding on the streets? I would hate, for whatever reason, to ever be considered liable for a motor vehicle accident without insurance. |
You might check your homeowner's or renter's insurance. There is usually a general liability coverage provided with these. It may cover you when riding your bike.
If you don't have homeowner's or renter's insurance, then you probably don't have any significant assets to protect and your exposure is then minimal. |

My homeowner's policy covers me while I'm riding my bike. I think that's the norm for renters policies, too. But ask an insurance agent.
Renters or homeowners insurance is a good thing to have anyway. |
Oh yes, ask an insurance agent, just not your own, or even one with the same company. Even inquiring about rates and coverage can be a black mark on your record. Homeowners and renters Ins. can cover the bike, damage, and loss. If the bike costs less than your deductable forget it. Simple medical coverage for yourself you should have anyway. I have seen one company offer bike specific theft insurance. They went out of business real fast. Get a good lock and be fanatic about using it. And take the LAB effective cyclist course.
