[QUOTE=Fastfwd]Thanks to all. I went with your cyclocross recommendation and with what my LBS offered me. I will take delivery of a Specialized tricross tomorrow or later today.QUOTE]

Looks like a nice bike - I bet you'll love it. Congrats and keep us posted on how it performs. And of course, you have to post pics :D .

My wife runs Conti Contact 700x37 on Open Pro/105 wheels on her Cross Check.

Your wheelset should be just fine.

no one has mentioned putting cx tires on a regular old school bike. You can do so with the faster geometry of the old raleighs/pugeots, etc. I currently have 27 inch cx tires (increasingly harder to find) on an old raleigh marathon and am absolutely loving it (plus I still have room for full fenders). I also have a sleek racing bike but would rather commute on the marathon for its ride comfort. Who cares if it does not corner like it is on rails. I average 17-21 mph as a normal cruising speed. The old raleigh is not that much slower once it is up to speed. It is somewhat slower on the climbs and acceleration, however, but these things are not as critical when commuting.
