Improved Basic Commute distance Poll

How far is your basic round-trip commute? Please ignore the similar message behind the curtain. :crash:

mrkott3r 01-06-06 09:34 PM

dont know, my bike doesnt have a computer on it. But it roughly takes 15min one way riding at a medium/quick pace with two climbs

DataJunkie 01-06-06 09:34 PM

Darn it. I'm tired. Voted for a one way distance instead of round trip.

My revised vote:
36-40 depending on detours
every once in a blue moon
70

chipcom 01-06-06 10:10 PM

Would basic translate to minimum distance or maximum distance?

Nevermind, went for minimum - 30 miles.

eastbaybob 01-06-06 10:19 PM

My ride, round trip, comes in at 4.1 miles, so I rounded down to 4.

Joe Dog 01-06-06 10:32 PM

My one-way is 7 miles on the dot. I voted 8 as the "most correct" answer.

d2create 01-06-06 10:36 PM

Crap, I voted for 12 instead of 25 because i didn't realize it was supposed to be round trip. Maybe an admin can fix it? :(

cruzMOKS 01-06-06 10:48 PM

My basic commute is 7.75 miles. It is mostly down hill to work.

Lets see. 30 minutes round trip at oh say 24 KPH (15 MPH) you went 12 K. Please enter 8 miles.

Or give a cycling friend who does not commute a gift of a contributing membership and have them log in for the correct round trip distance. THEN to keep the stats tidy have them start on an 8 mile roundtrip commute :D

Ditto on entering my one way distance. Looks like we need an improved improved poll!

Artkansas 01-07-06 11:37 AM

You didn't specify whether that is a one-way distance or both there and back.

I think I'm off the chart though. My commute is about 1.9 miles one way, with a 200 foot climb and a 200 foot drop each way.

tomg 01-07-06 11:43 AM

i rounded up, going 3.2 miles in and 3.3 miles home = 6.5 miles total. but i have been riding mountain bike last week, taking some short cuts and dirt trails, so distance is total of 6.1 miles with but time increase about 45 min (usually 15 min x 2 = 30 min). in the summer, i add big loops after work with loaded commuter to +/- 12-45 mile rides! good productive form of stess relief!

peregrine 01-07-06 01:34 PM

12 mile round-trip if I ride the shortest way

truman 01-07-06 05:12 PM

the whole commute, or just the bike riding portion(s)?

I went with just the bicycle part - and the minimum at that.

ken cummings 01-07-06 06:00 PM

The 4 mile button is for 0 to 4 miles, and so on. Please enter your number.

I saw that after day one. I will calculate a set of mileage ranges that give a symmetric bell curve instead of this lopsided one. But only after this poll sinks off the first few pages. More people do shorter distances so the poll needs more low fields. Yet I started this poll when I saw some people asking about 60 and 70 mile commutes. I want to set the next poll so the person with the highest five days a week commute gets their out personal field. Currently the top is over 40 miles.

03FinestAL 01-07-06 06:18 PM

62 round trip, I voted 45+.

Hmm ... same boat.
Actual mileage is 11 one way so 22 miles round trip.

Ellie 01-09-06 07:58 AM

Another one-way only muppet. Selected 12, should have been 25. Dammit.

Same here. Should be 16 not 8.

DogBoy 01-09-06 08:25 AM

My round-trip is 10. Not 8, not 12, 10. I voted 8 as the "most correct" since it doesn't overstate miles.

d2create 01-09-06 08:30 AM

LOL! Well I'm glad I wasn't the only one who didn't read the instructions.
Time for a new poll cause this one's fubared! :crash:

NoRacer 01-09-06 08:33 AM

I didn't read the instructions either and thought single leg for 10 miles, but I chose 8, because 10 wasn't an option.

Actually, I should have selected 20 miles round trip.
