Beware of Bar-end Blinkies!

I put in a pair of the nashbar specials a couple weeks back to help with visibility on the night commute and any road imperfection I hit it sounded like my bike was going to fall apart...lots of buzzing type rattling. It took me a while to figure out what the noise was because I had tinkered with other pieces on the bike.

After checking out other things, I came to find out that while the bar end part of the blinky was snug, the interior tube of the blinkies rattle on the inside of the bar. In addition, they seem to choose when to work and when not to work, but I had already heard that complaint.
While I think it is a great concept, looks like they need a few more years of R&D to iron out the issues.

I've had the same results and the intermittant lights seems to confuse drivers.

Yeah, I know what you mean. In addition to that incessant rattle, if your right blinky goes out, everyone thinks you have your left turn signal on all night!

I keep 'em on my roadie for un-planned uses only. Cork tape seems to make 'em steady.

Are you talking about bar flies or some controllable blinkies?

Weird. I haven't had anything of the sort happen with my bar end blinkies. I actually like them because I think it really increases my visibility.

I wrapped mine (Performance FlashBack) with a bit of electrical tape, to ensure a snug fit in the bar-ends. Haven't had even the slightest trouble with them, I'm happy to say.

Me also. I use cork grips, so I don't have bar tape on the inside of the handlebar. I wrapped the bar end lights with electrical tape to make a shim, then jammed them in. I still haven't made up my mind about the effectiveness of bar-end lights, though.

No noise problems with the ones from Perf. One died, so I had to get a second set.

Drivers give more room when they are on. Probably because they can see how wide the handlebars are.

That's exactly why I gave them a go, because they outline the width of my space on the road. Like some of the above posters, I also wrapped mine with electrical tape to create a shim for a snug fit, but the extended tube part of the light is still clanging, so I will try to wrap that section too. As for those who haven't had a malufunction yet, my hats off to ya. I think they are a great idea, just need a little more refinement in my opinion.
