Drove into my girlfriend's (now wife) covered parking at her old apt. Luckily no one was around to laugh.....or see my tears after ruining my towers... but at least my bike was fine

One way of avoiding driving into your own garage with a bike on the roofrack is to fill up your garage with other bikes. Then you will have no place to park your car inside. Problem solved. :D

At the risk of drawing ILTB's incessant wrath, dump the car. j/k

You could do what I have, let your sister in-law move in with her boyfriend and 2 kids. Then they put all their junk in the garage and you have to use the driveway. Sorry if I sound bitter. :p

Rule #1: Bike on car, garage door opener goes in the trunk.

Unfortunately, some vehicles have the opener built into the dash or mirror. I s'pose you could always stick a post-it note over the button, tho. :p
