NW Indiana to Chicago route?

Hey Chicagoland commuters,

I lived in Chicago and NW Indiana as a child from 1961 - 1977. I've always wanted to ride from NW Indiana (Munster area) and get on the Lakefront trail and ride to Downtown Chicago. I'll be going back there in March.

Is this do-able? Do any of you do this?

blahhh, seems like you'd have to ride on some pretty crappy roads and through some hoods to make that connector. It's kinda cool to ride around in those heavily industrial areas on the south side of Chicago though...The Lakefront trail is nice of course, but to my knowledge only goes as far south as Hyde Park. But I could be wrong about that, I haven't lived in chi town for a few years...

(edit: Really not trying to put down the south side of Chicago. I lived there for 4 years, and thought the culture there was interesting, but I just didn't find it too bike friendly compared to downtown and the north side)

I pretty much stick to the northside and 'burbs, but Chicago puts out a bike map which identfies bike trails and suggested streets for cycling:
https://www.cityofchicago.org/Transpo...ap/keymap.html
Pick East Side for neigborhood and pan from there to see the suggested streets to the lakefront trail. Good luck.

I have gone south as far as 130th st., way past the end of bike path & it's doable to connect to Indiana but those a pretty rough streets almost as bad as the affluent north side burbs (ie Sheridan Rd, etc )
There you would need is at least 30mm tires & a somewhat aggresive tread.
Go for it.
