You know you're an HHCMF when...

... you're cruising uphill at 13mph on a 50-lb bike in February on your way to work and you're singing out loud.

How about.....

you're sitting at your desk, your legs are still burning from your morning commute, some idiot tried to run you over today, and it's raining but you still can't wait till 5 to go get on your bike.

Yikes! 13 MPH uphill? "Cruising"? Barring a major tailwind, I can't possibly imagine pulling that off.

... when you consider lightweight parts a negative. After you load in your laptop, change of clothes, lunch, thermos of coffee, tools, cap, varying degrees of cold weather gear, pump, tube, 3lb light battery, etc etc who would really spend extra money to save a couple grams?

Well it wasn't a huge hill, and it was really like 12.8... . You only started commuting recently though didn't you? Give it time. I fully expected a "13 mph, that's it?" response from someone .

Ditto. I keep looking at fancy lightweight stuff in the LBS and then going "wait... what the heck am I thinking?"

Hehe, that would be me. Patches of ice might last up to a week or two after a snowfall, but we've only had two significant snowfalls this year. But I've been riding the studs since december . Rice crispies every day!

I only started commuting recently, but my climbing speed on my commute is faster than my climbing speed on other rides. Yes, I'm in street clothes, I'm trying to avoid sweating so that I don't have to freshen up afterward, my commuter bike is heavier, and I'm carrying a U-lock. But it's a mere three miles, and the hill is right at the end of my commute. It's about half a mile of about 6% grade. During my commute, I often hit a red light at the bottom, so there's no momentum helping me out. I sustain about 11 MPH when commuting, about 10 MPH at tempo pace on my carbon fiber bike. I commute purely because it's fun, but since I'm out there anyway, I've also turned it into a chance to improve my hill-climbing speed. But the big thing is, there's no way I'd consider myself to be "cruising" at that speed, and no way I'd still have breath to sing!

You know you're an HHCMF when you look forward to going to work even if you don't look forward to being at work.

You know you're an HHCMF when...

You are happy when the wind blows down the bridges so that it makes the only "hills" in South Jersey harder.
