Hi,

I'm wondering if anyone on here has a commute that brisks between (or through) K-town and Venice. I just started a new job out in Venice today. I know that biking to and from there every day will definitely make the day better and make me feel better about everything going on there... Anyway, is anyone else doing a commute along that way? Any recommendations? Would you be interested in riding together for part of it or.... ?

Anyway... planning on taking Venice (blvd) for the majority of the route. On a fixed. Fast, too.

Venice Blvd has a bike lane all the way to the beach...lots of glass too.

ya its a real shame how much glass and other sharp debris can be found on our streets. but sometimes it's fun playing the "land mine" game

but i don't head in that direction for my commute.

I am on Venice from Spring St all the way to Abbot Kinney, 2-3 times per week. It moves along fairly fast.

do you have any recommendations for alternate routes? the glass thing is o.k.... but if there is a better route, please share!
i live near Vermont/Wilshire... so typically I take my street (9th/James M. Wood) and head on Western south until Venice, then punch through to Venice (the municipality). Work is, literally, on the Boardwalk (but a legit firm, not a tattoo parlor! and nothing tourist-y) near where Abbot Kinney runs into Main/Ocean.

Wilshire is a terrible road... and Santa Monica has psychos running on it, getting angry at bicyclists. Olympic is crazy because of all its hills and construction, not to mention that people don't realize that the 'breakaway' lane is also a designated "Bike Route" (according to the signs), so I've been run down many times by drivers.

How is Pico?
Washington is too far south, I think.

I've taken Pico towards the beach. I've taken Wilshire and cut through to Olympic. Once I get to the last turn or before Century city, double over to Pico and bypass the uphill battles. Wilshire from you to me does suck, Beverly is pretty smooth from Larchmont heading east.

I live in Venice and I have to deal play the land mine game w/ tourist who stands in the middle of the bike lane and snapping pictures.

Depending what part of Venice you work in Washington, Pico, Venice or Olympic are all good options. I use Venice because it is the most direct route for me.

I have not ridden it in years but there is a longish bike path leading inland in you direction from the south east side of Corona Del Mar. Fierce winds tho best for going home. Links with the beach bike path by the Coast Guard station. Venice is good, it goes near the Museum of Jurassic Technology.

EDIT: Bless Google. It is the Ballona Creek Bike path and goes inland all the way to National. Take it from there
