Help newbie with route

I am contemplating a commute from Evanston, Illinois to Riverwoods, IL (just west of Northbrook). It looks like I can go through the forest preserve for the bulk of the ride. Any comments, suggestions are appreciated.

I can't help you with your specific route, but I will suggest exploring a few different ones when you aren't in a rush to get to work. Sundays are good for this. Find one that works for you.

You can download bike route maps for both Illinois and Wisconsin from each states' D.O.T. web site, I got there by just googling [(STATE) bike route maps]. Illinois is split into eight regions and Wisconsin is divided by county. While trails are shown the maps generally rate roads by suitability for cycling. In a car try out Dempster (hwy 58) to HWY 43 and north to Deerfield then west to Riverwoods.

I have never been there. Try asking Lon Haldeman and the PAC Tour people in Sharon, WI. They should have your area memorized.
