Oh, and-
Maybe I should forego farting 'til I get to work, just in case...it's not a fart.

to the tune of Arlo Guthrie's Motorcycle Song:

Well, I don't want a pickle

Just wanna ride on my bi- sickle

And I don't wanna die

Just wanna ride on my bi- cy--cle

well a late last night just the other day

went out and I saw Ray,

only thing that Ray could say

is:

I don't wanna a pickle

just wanna ride on my bi- cy---cle.

or for some reason, despite the fact that I am mathematically incompetent at most times I start to do complicated mathematical problems like:
how many gallons of gas are being consumed by the 1021 cars I have passed on Storrow drive while stuck in traffic?

And how many gallons of gas have I saved, plus insurance costs, plus maintenance since last year...

To reiterate yesterdays post

More thoughts from the ride home:

"Glad Cheez-its have no Trans-Fat."

"I wonder if my tail light is lying on the floor of the shed" (I noticed it had snapped off of the bike rack, probably because of the way I've been storing my bike.)

"I really need to clean out the shed."

"These roads SUCK. Bumps, potholes; it will be a miracle if I make it home without a flat."

"Where would I go if I had a #2 on deck?"

"OK, lower back pain. Does this get easier as I get into better shape?"

"What would happen if a Zebra and a regular horse were to mate?"

"That low-rider loser just purposefully almost brushed against me!"

"Is that SUV going to STOP?!?!?" (No, pulled right out in front of an ambulance.)

"29 more years left on the mortgage. Yippy."

It seems to me there's a lot of stress / negativity out there, some posters even bordering on road-rage feelings. You guys need to chill out and enjoy the ride ;-)

I know it's difficult with all the hostility from motorists but I try to keep calm and think pleasant thoughts so I enjoy my ride to / from work and arrive at my destination refreshed. Doesn't always happen that way of course ;-)

Here are a few random thoughts that popped into my head on my morning commute>
- That mist feels nice and cool on my face, must be good for my skin
- Look at that lake, hardly a ripple today
- What an a**hole, almost brushed me - I need to get out further in the road
- (shortly after) Ahh that's better the cars are behaving themselves now I am 3ft out from the kerb!
- Man that Brooks B67 is so comfortable.
- Here's the turnoff for work, wish I could just keep pedalling past and go for a long ride

I love this thread. Here's some of mine from today.

-Why did I buy a house at the bottom of a huge hill?
-Ohh, nice driver. Gave me plenty of room when you passed. Thank you.
-I think I see this same bunch of ladies out walking every morning. Do they really have to get such an early start?
-Yep, another tiny woman in a huge vehicle. I seem to see this a lot.
-Watch it, squirrel. Please don't dart out this way.
-Okay, he's waiting for the car in front of me...is he going to let me clear the intersection too? Ahhhh, good fella.
-There's not as many cars parked along the street today. Is the college on break?
-Nuts. Not going to beat that red.
-Yes, I'm signalling a left turn. I wonder if the driver behind me appreciates that.
-Another stupid four-way stop in a low volume intersection.
-Let's see...I think I'll go with something light like a bagel this morning. Maybe a salad for lunch. Gotta get back in touring shape.
-Man, it DOES feel a little warmer this morning. I am soooo happy spring is almost here. It'll be below freezing tomorrow morning though. Crap.
-Well, I'm here. You know, I just don't think I could stand doing this in a car.

"Does this rain seem particularly wet today?"
"It's so hard out here for a pimp..."
"I gotta get full fenders!"
"Should I take the route with more stop signs or more lights?"
"My legs are killing me from yesterday's stair workout."
"I hope my phone doesn't get soaked"
"It's so hard out here for a pimp...great, that song's gonna be stuck in my head all day."
"I hope that budget meeting isn't until this afternoon."

I should've put my slicks on
These studded tires are cool but theyre so slow!
hey now that I pumped them up a bit they're not actually that bad
no traffic? good...
I'm gonna be late for work
my fixed gear drives like a mack truck with these tires...
that trek will make a good backup commuter... need taller/longer stem for it
better avoid these potholes... and that metal grating
I hate this freeway underpass
I think I overdressed a little bit
dang my legs are tired. Shoulda put on the slicks last night
so much for the forecasted snow...
I hate being late to work
these studded tires are still so slow!
I wonder what kind of shifters I'll use on the trek
I wonder how hard it is to rebuild that wheel I yanked apart the other night?
how come I slow down on this road always? it doesn't FEEL steeper...
I hate crossing 4 lanes of traffic to get to work....
I wonder how late I am
I wonder if the boss showed up yet....
I hope its not too busy at the office....

Today:

I hope the weather forecast is wrong. (It wasn't)
This road bike is fassssssst.
...not that I would know in this ****ing wind.
There is almost nobody out commuting today! WTF? Oh yeah. The wind.
I like gears.
*kerchunk* *tick,tick,tick*
I hate gears.
I hate the IRS
I hate the IRS
I hate the IRS
I hate the IRS
I hate the IRS
I hate money.
There's the guy on the Merckx fixed conversion I see every day... with a lady friend this time.
This new stem rocks! Hooray for steel!
Wow. This idiot saw me, passed me, and is really going to cut me off. What an ***hole.
I can't believe track standing on this bike is harder.
I made pretty good time.
Still 10 minutes late though. I should leave earlier.*

*I think this every day.

This morning:
...Lovin' the tailwind. I'll be early, today.
...Let's take this street. Maybe I'll see that cute brunette in lycra, today.
...Wonder what time she rides...
...Yo, Blue-jean-rider-dude. You should not be riding on the sidewalk. That sidewalk ends in the next block and you'll be in the road, where you belong.
...Do I say hello or just blow by him?
..."'Morning."
...He probably thinks I'm a snob because of my road bike.
...Is he actually trying to catch me? Good luck, dude.
...Great. A red light. Now Blue-jean-rider-dude is going to catch up.
...Yep. He ran the red. What an idiot. It's a good thing that cager was paying attention.
...I'll reel him in pretty quickly.
...He's moving slower than before. Laters.
...Dang. Another red light. Here he comes... Swoosh! Another near miss, as he runs the red again.
...He looks tired. Any rider worth their salt would drop this guy for good.
...This hill should do it.
...OMG, he's actually going to walk his bike up the hill? Now I feel sorry for him.
...Hey! I'm a half hour early.
...Look, Ho-Hos. Flippin' sweet!

oh jeez ... what a headwind.
should i really take the long route into the wind?
oh, maybe i shouldn't have taken the long route.
god, this hill is taxing my good attitude with this damn wind.
I'm glad I wore my shades or the wind would pop my eyeballs out.
For crying out loud this wind sucks.
Turn right.
Oh, holy moly, this is going to rock. That damn headwind isn't so bad when it's on your tail! WHoo hooo! 25 mph, hardly peddling, fully-loaded mtn bike. Rock on. This is why I ride a bike.

Sometimes it is:
I hate glass--why do they have to break the bottle?
HEY--think you can get a little closer next time?
yeehaw--wind

But a reoccuring thought I have is:
I am so damn lucky to be able to ride by bike--my body isn't completely gone,
my wife thinks it is good for me, and my route isn't too bad. Life is good.
I try to think that one more often.

I hear that! I am all about having a reason for this, (other than me being out of shape!) My commute has a stretch about 3-4 miles along the potomac, and the wind whips off of that something fierce, VERY rarely I get that as a tailwind and it rocks. Maybe 1 in 10 times though... ugh....

You guys don't think about bikeforums on your way to work?

Hmm, that thread about thoughts... I'll have to try remember them.
Yeah, here's my downhill with the light at the bottom like in that other thread.
Wonder what the bikeforums guys think about glass and slicks - there's WAAY too many broken bottles here.

I really have to start lengthening my rides - 6 miles is just not far enough for a RT commute :-)

yesterday's afternoon ramblings:

* uh oh, headwind
* geez, feels like a wind tunnel here
* man, concrete truck dribbled all over the bike lane
* crap! more glass!
* I hate this hill in the morning but sure love it in the afternoon
* wow, cager waited to turn right -- I must be dreaming
* just a little while longer *pant*... just keep going...
* damn, construction -- new route now!
* uh oh, more wind!
* one more mile!
* almost home!
* hooray, I made it again.

I don't remember mine nearly as well as you guys, although after reading this thread I've found myself thinking about remembering stuff to post.
Well, here's a few random ones from this week.
"This bike is fast" ( I bought a second hand Marinoni last Sat)
"This bike is smooth" (the Marinoni has 23mm tires @100PSI, go figure)
"SPD, you gotta unclip" * 100 times (went clipless on the new bike)
"hurry up car, you're slowing down the bikes"
"damn wind"
"I can really fly with this tailwind"
"how many construction workers do they need to lean on this railing?"
"Crunch hehehehehe" (when cars try to go the same speed as me over the traffic calming bumps)
"that must be some pile up" (zipping past the lines of cars on every access road to the Alex Fraser bridge)
