Extreme commute club: week 20
Cyclaholic had a great idea. Let's make this photo week! Let's take interesting photos on your commute plus pics that capture the challenges you are dealing with. I suggest that we also include pics of our bikes and of ourselves. An action shot is worth double points. Cyclaholic mentioned that he is particularly interested in seeing some pics of us northerners riding in the snow.
For the upcoming annual XCC awards, let's have a category for best picutre. :D |
Here's a link to the pictures of my new bike, I went for the artsy shot with the drivetrain but I think it just looks like I dropped the camera  :p

Here's the sight that greeted me the morning of 9 November. Local gambling club burned down to the ground. Police were directing traffic away, but of course bikes just go offroad :D Plus I arrived before the police and fire trucks.

Here is my recumbent taken on Friday. That's lake Champlain in the background and the green Mountains of Vermont in the distance

Last pic for tonight. Me arriving at work friday.
Later this week, pics of the lonesome highway, my agonized face as I fight a powerful headwind, and my ferry ride in big waves. :D |

Well here is my Average Ride Time for the last week. I had no wind at all on the way home. So I was able to get a ARTS of 15.94 for 17.8 mile ride. I did almost hit a rabit on the way home. I was flying along at 17.6 mph when this crazy rabit jumped out in front of me. Then tried to out run me. I was about 6 inchs behind him when he took off to the right. It happened so fast that I did not have time to hit the breaks.
Any ways, enjoy. |
Cyclaholic. I like the drive train shoot the best. Thats a very sharp bike you got there. If it comes up missing.... I was not even in your town at the time of the missing bike... LOL.
What size frame is that Cyclaholic. It looks small to me. |
The only pics I have are the FGG pix in my sig. Only ones worth sharing. Right now its wearing 1.9" studded Nokians, the rest of the time its 1.25" slicks and is 48/19 instead of the usual 48/17. I could use a lower gear with the studded tires but it'll do. I am just too lazy to swap to the 38T chainring that I've got. Here is a pic that's not on FGG, of my ugly mug making a face at the camera. Disclaimer: I am making a face, I am NOT generally this ugly, although I am missing two front teef, thanks to a water park ride accident last year.....

I'm back on the bike, after my vacation, and my recovery-from-vacation. Work's been crazy busy with all kinds of late nights and such. ick.
Today's ride was so nice. I overdressed, still in winter mode. Lots of fair weather cyclists out today. I'll take some pics this week and post 'em. |
I agree with Velo -- lots of fair weather riders, but fortunately I didn't run into any who were a hazard. This afternoon will be summer riding -- not the best week to ask us for pics of our extreme commute! I'll try to take some pices over the next couple of days. I'm kicking myself that I didn't snap any pics of the trail when we had 11" of snow. Oh well live and learn.

Rykoala, Jur, and Cyclaholic: nice pics. I'm with Cigtech, I like the drivetrain pic the best of Cylcaholic's very beautiful new ride. Jur, when I mentioned taking pics of interesting things on your commute, I wasn't really thinking I would see something like that! Yikes! Rykoala, like your bike as well, looks like it can take anything!
Here is a pic of the lonesome highway I ride. This is about mile 2 and is looking up a 2 mile gradual climb. I hate this part of my ride. Doesn't it look funny to have feet in front of you while you ride your bike. I had to learn not to look at my feet going around when i first started to ride this bike. |
Hey Mars, what road is that? You're in St. Pete Right?
|
Here is my route to work every day. http://www.gmap-pedometer.com/?r=63259

CigTech: that's a nice looking ride. What's that bridge like to ride over?
I'm not in St. Pete, I live in Vermont and commute to work in upstate New York. :) |

Here are some pics I took during my commute this morning. L-R, T-B:
Sir Hubert Opperman memorial; Dandenong Creek; ditto; ditto; Somers path ditto |
The Bridge is the best part of the ride. There are three bridges there. One going east. One going west. And a walk a cross bridge for bikes and people, it named the Friendship bridge. Sometimes I take the friendship bridge and some times I just go over the car bridge.
They close the Friendship bridge after sunset (around 7:00) and then reopen it at sunrise. If I get off at 7:00 then I have to go over the car bridge. It takes about 10 minutes. It is 2.75 miles across the bridge. when I get off at 6:00pm I get on the bridge hump and watch the sunset. I still have not remembered to take the camera with me to get some sunset pictures. I just I'll have to do that tomorrow. I had the last two days off. Tomorrow is the start of my work week. |

Here is me bucking a 20 mph headwind on the way home from work. I had a really busy day and had forgotten to eat and was just starting to bonk. see the thousand mile stare? This is going up the bike path part of my ride. That grey disk is a helmet mounted mirror.
|
Hey Mars, How fast is that bent bike? I have been thinking of getting a P-38.
|
Ah Jur, everything is so green! Look at my pics in comparison, everything is grey and brown this time of year. :( Come on spring! I want to see some green like Jur's ride!
