Snow In Denver: Yahoo!
Love it! Studs are on. It's not too cold. These are the days when going to work is actually Fun!
|
I may buy a pair of studs for next year. But for now I can't wait for long sunny days.
|
As per most snow in Denver I sat this one out. My commute from thornton to the DTC can be quite annoying in this weather.

Snow ?
Up here in the frozen north, Canada, it was so warm on sunday I put on my summer jacket, shades, sandals (with wool socks) made a couple pb&j's and cranked out a solo impromptu century. Even got a partial suntan on my face out of the deal :) |
|
I wimped out too, mainly cause i had to take the gf to the airport in the morning so it didn't make a whole lot of sense to come home and switch the car for the bike. :( <--wimp
|
I had fun this morning, but sadly not on the bike. I had an 830am flight to Phoenix this morning, and the rental car Hertz gave me over the weekend was a Mustang. A few interesting sideways moments getting out of my subdivision... :D
I think if I was in town, I probably would have wimped out. 12 miles always feels like a long way to go in that kind of weather... |
Okay. I will stop being hard on myself. :)
<-- not a wimp. More like sensible. :p |
I too, had to remount the studs up. Didn't need them too much this AM, but better safe than sorry. I'm not taking them off till July now. I learned what happens when you take them off too early and tempt Mother Nature.

Put the Studs on for the SECOND TIME this year!
I love riding in this stuff! There has NOT been a Winter on the Flats in Colorado. Bring on the Spring Snows! |
How much of a difference do studs, compared to regular MTB tires, make? Had couple of issues (slipping) riding in yesterday and today, but it was still alot of fun. Thornton to DTC is impressive DataJunkie. I just go to North Denver.

I used knobbies for about 5 years, and I think the new studded tires are a big improvement. On soft snow, I don't think studs make very difference. But, when things get slick or there's ice patches, I think they are great. There's just very little slipping and sliding. And, I am sometimes troubled, on a dished road, by a tendency to slide gradually toward the gutter - doesn't happen with studs. The downside is that they are HEAVY.
