I think mine is fairly self explanatory, since I moved to the DC area I may have become just a tad cynical!

Gus Riley 03-23-06 10:42 AM

It is I says I!

recursive 03-23-06 10:59 AM

Mine cuts down on anonymity. Multiple people have recognized me based on my avatar. It helps to have a distinctive helmet cover.

Mad Scientist 03-23-06 11:20 AM

My avatar is a picture of my son (2 years old as of fall 2005 (when the picture was taken)). I am a research scientist (hence the handle) primarily doing software development. My family's nickname for me is Badda Dadda because it is really fun to say.

Thanks. I have a bit of a personal connection to the flying horse, also. My grandfather used to make neon signs, up in Wichita Falls. He made many a neon horse for service stations in and around that part of the state. On several occasions, he was contracted to come down to Dallas and repair "The Big One".
He told me about it, when I was just a kid and I thought that he had the coolest job in the world. He said that he hated heights so the whole time he was fixing it, he just wanted to throw up.

The part that was strange about the experience with my client was that he said his wife, (who was born in Richardson), looked at it and remarked, "What does the Mobile horse have to do with Dallas?"
That's when he changed his mind and wanted to go in another direction with the look of his project. No skin off my nose, (I bill by the hour ;) ).

I chose mine because I was bored at the time, and have a weird sense of humor.

Treespeed 03-23-06 12:46 PM

It's me biking. Seemed appropriate.

Mine is a picture I took from the top of Mt Rushmore. I got the opportunity to go to the top and it gave me a new appreciation of it.

Just Cuz!!

I loved Dynomutt when I was a youngster, very Cool Dog!!

"John"

caloso 03-23-06 01:15 PM

The Bear Flag goes with my user name. Oso means bear in Spanish.

onyourbike 03-23-06 01:34 PM

I wanted to use something else. I couldn't shrink the image sufficiently to make it fit the size limit :(

I love cartoons and the Incredibles has become my favorite movie... I also like Edna's character and her sayings... I was trying to figure out how to get a picture of myself on a bike with a cape, and why it would be a bad idea, as Edna would explain "No Capes!" (I admit, pretty lame, but it makes me laugh)

I am a martial arts master and browsing for a Avatar liked this one. No

Let's discuss that. I am male and 50, and, because of time and erosion, I've aquired a sense of sardonic humor about the Human Condition. Besides, the look on the Doc' face... kind of a Mel Brooks thing.

Very Cromagnon. Emerson is the dodo I got the Einstein  Me and my buddies have wonderful shots like that but unfortunately we didn't intend them to be that way... :) slvoid cracks me up!

Surely we can find another way to say that. "Emerson has a dodo as his avatar" has a very different conotation from "Emerson is the dodo." Thank you very much. :D

Mine says "Bicycle Mind" inside a Buddhist circle, which represents both the oneness of all things, the cycle of re-birth, and my front wheel. All of that would be pretty self-explanatory if I could get it to show clearly. I've worked to get the file size down, etc, but no luck so far. Any ideas?

Mo'Phat 03-23-06 04:45 PM

Mine's Chief Wiggum in his underpants holding a gun...saying the funniest line ever uttered on the Simpsons.

peregrine 03-23-06 04:52 PM

I chose Tweety bird 'cause of my username :] It's a cute cartoon too

I've been thinking of changing it, though. I found this website where you sort of design your own avatar person, and I can make it look like me... unfortunately it doesn't provide anything bike related :(

Just a lil' picture of my rear cassette. Before it turned (and now stays) black :p

Appropriate with your sig too. as well as you preference to commuting on two wheels (well, when not doing wheelies ;) )

penanaut 03-23-06 05:44 PM

Did you write your sig? I love it and would like to use it when I explain why I ride to work to my colleagues.

Poguemahone 03-23-06 05:48 PM

Sgt. Fury and His Howling Commandos is the greatest comic book of all time. Okay, after Uncle Scrooge, but much as I like Barks' work, Disney is a tad to corporate.

I used to use Wonder Warthog, another personal fave.
