Stolen In Baltimore

Help out if you can (mainly by finding the @#$()$#^%@)$# responsible.) Last night (4/12) someone pried open the shell on my pickup (which has tinted windows) and removed my bike. It's a mid-90s Trek 930 Singletrack, rigid, green/black/green. Has Planet Bike fenders, a Soma hemp seat bag, a Topeak morph pump, and Trail Rat headlight and lots of reflective tape on it. I doubt I'll see it again, but if anyone encounters it kneecap whoever is on it.

(Ok, I feel a little better now, but since I can't afford to build up the LHT frame I have in my apt looks like I'm not riding for a while  )

It will be covered under insurance. What's your deductible?

Joel,

What side of town was it stolen from? Do you have pictures of it?

Watch Fleabay, craigslist and your local paper. Not sure if pawn shops even take bikes anymore for fear of them being heisted.

Yeah, and check Philly and DC craigslist, too.

Not covered by insurance, just asked them (said it would be covered if I'd had a renter's policy, but not on my vehical.)

It was stolen in Mt. Vernon, on Guilford Ave between Eager and Chase. I park in that same spot almost every night, including occasionally with my bike in the truck and have never had a problem. Yesterday I had to drive to a friend's house and bike in from there (I don't have a street permit so I can't leave my truck at my apartment) and then had too much to carry up to include my bike. Last time I'll leave anything in my truck. I guess the one good thing is that whoever did it was skilled enough to pry the shell open without actually damaging it, it still locks as well as it did, I just know now that it isn't worth a damn.

I hadn't thought about those, I already posted on Balto craigs, I'll check out the others.

Find any and all bike shops that are in your area (esspecially if they deal in used bikes/parts) and let them know. Provide pictures if you have them.

It is a bitter pill for you but thanks for letting us know pick-up shells are not secure. When/if I get one I will know to have further security for bikes and stuff. The one time I had a bike stolen it was from inside a back yard with a high, solid fence around it. The police figured it was a local high schooler who had seen me park there before. So watch people in the area of the theft, some kid might be dumb enough to keep riding it.
