Attention Northside Denver Commuters
I found out some depressing news about the beloved Franklin St. detour on the Platte River Greenway. Although what we get at the end of the construction will be wonderful (no more having to go onto Franklin and crossing the tracks and then down along the cemetery), the detour will be in place until 2008. This is a major rework of that section of road, including moving gas lines and rail lines.
The current (bad but not as bad as the alternative) detour is the only viable option. Sorry to be the bearer of bad news.

2008?? Ack! Luckily, I dig on the lovely warehouse scenery. Oh by the way, this turned out to be a good route (Niver Creek trail to Platte River Greenway) for me--I'm on the east side of Broomfield and it's about 18.5 miles to downtown Denver for me. With a tailwind, I did it in 1:04 the other day (good for me). I won't talk about what happens with a headwind. Thanks for the info.

If trex had taken proportionally as long as this platte river construction project, it would have taken 30 years to complete. They must have 2 construction workers allocated to it.
Thanks for the info about why they are doing it. I gathered the 2008 completion date from the construction sign before you enter traffic.
This detour is genuinely annoying! It's even more obnoxious when I am taking my son to confluence park in his trailer. Time to explore more routes up north.

FYI
The detour has been removed. They just finished paving a temporary asphalt path between the fencing by the cemetery.
You still need to ride around the armoury since that portion of the path is still being paved. Those heading north have a short bike lane.
They were removing the sinage when I rode past it yesterday.
Yay! No riding with the semi trucks.
