the biggest commute challange (finding time!!)

Whats up everyone ? I hope the rides were all good I was a cager today and will be the rest of the week.

No Choice its the nature of my life at the moment.

Monday - out of town for work leave from house in AM

tues- Had to go to nephew baseball game too far to get there by bike in any kind of time frame.

Wed/today - supper at restaraunt with wifes co workers at 6pm (time I usually arrive home if on bike)

thurs- supper at another friends house and off to a play, HAVE TO arive at friends house at 6pm

friday- head straight from work to camp up north with lawnmower and weed wacker ...

sat /sunday no place to ride and too many other things to do up north.

next week is looking similar though ill probably be able to ride in on monday but I normally arrive home around midnight and get to bed around 1 am when comming back from up north and dont get moving too well at 6 am so monday morning rides after a camp weekend doesnt happen too often.

Finding time to make the 1 hour commute each way esp the return trip is the biggest challange for me!!far too many irons in the fire

I think the time thing more than anything else with the exception of perhaps distance ( main contributer to the time issue) is the main culprit.

I wish I worked in the city I lived in as a 3-5 mile ride 20-30 mins could be done and still have time to make after work obligations much of the time Like most I just mentioned.

But the fact that My commute is at least 13 miles and the opposite direction from most of my other activities /family ... takes at least an hour on the home trip and I dont get out of office quite on time as I have to pack/change which consumes another 30 mins, SO I have to skip riding many times as the time isn't there to facilitate other obligations usually after work.

Pain in the butt!!.

when summer hits Ill have a bit more time , less going on after work.

We here in the USA often just have too much going on and many of us live far enough away from work that commuting is not practical much of the time due to the TOO MUCH GOING ON.

one of my Co workers is from Italy and he bike commuted everyday in Milan on a upright bike and his ride was only 2 mile or so he laughed when he talked about riding on rainy days holding an umbrella while on his bike.

Just venting

have a great day

I solved the time issue by waking up at 5AM. I get to work at 6AM and can leave at 2PM. Lately I haven't managed it and get up at 6 instead, but that's my target anyway. It worked in the winter when it's gonna be dark no matter when I ride, but now that it's getting pretty light by 6AM it's hard not to just sleep that extra hour and ride in the light.

I wake up at 4, out the door by 5, drive 30+ miles to the park-n-ride, ride final 16 miles to work and arrive by 7. Reverse at 4pm, home usually by 6. This time of year, today for example, once I get home the GF and maybe the boy and I will take about an hour ride. Then it's dinner, chores and get ready for another day. Not every day works out this way, but we made the decision that we wanted a simpler, less hectic life and that riding was an important part of that life. We all makes our choices and have the power to change the choices we makes. :D

Unfortunatly I have a job that requires me to be available to customers during our operating hours. flex time is not an option .

the ride into work is usually easy as I can always leave early enough to make it to work , its all the obligations after work that kills me.

The park and ride halfway thing I tried a few times but it sort of defeats the purpose and is kind of a pain.

I was mainly venting my solution is to unclutter my evenings.

thanks for the reply.
