Sweaty Helmets
 

Ok, once all the kids at the back of the class have stopped giggling about 'sweaty helmet's, I'll get on with the question.

I was going to post this in the sweating thread below, but it's not exactly relevant.

Simply, I have a 10 mile commute in the morning, which I've just started to get into, have done it 8 times now, and I love it. At the end of the 10 miles, I got to the gym, shower, and then have a 3 minute gentle ride (so I don't sweat more) into work from the gym.

The problem is, then little bit of material padding at the front of my bike helmet gets saturated with sweat from the 10 mile run, and even if I pad it down with some bog roll, it's still wet when I put it back on for the 3 minuter back to work.

a) It messes up my hair, and b) It's a really icky feeling having it pressing against my head.

Any ideas? I'd still like to use the helmet, as the 3 minutes is on a really busy road (with Taxis that don't believe in indicating) - and feel almost naked with out it.

Check your LBS and see if you can get more helmet pads. Swap your sweaty pads for clean, dry ones after your commute.

Sweat bands pretty much takes care of my problem.

I go military butch with the coif and use one of the scary
tuff HD-broDo0d bandanas you see in MC shops. It can
be washed in the sink at work and dry by leave time.
As an addd bonus, if you choose the scary flaming skulls version
it will make any Yup SUV driver think twice about bleeping you on
his way to the country club to suck martinis :roflmao:

I wear a headswetas coolmax doorrag bandana thingy. You could just tear up a cheap 5 dollar coolmax shirt and make one.

I had the same problem, hour of hard cycling to get to work with no shower, made for helmet head hairdoo. These things are a awesome, now i get to work and just need to comb out my hair and im set.

I dont cycle without them now.
