Cannondale makes a neat bike that seems like it would be a great commuter, of course like so many others, it is not available in the US. :(

I like it but the red, blue and yellow remind me of the Copenhagen city bikes.

The site doesn't say how much it weighs, but I'm sure it's every bit of 30 lbs.

It does come in other colors but that scheme is growing on me.

I like it because it comes with a 7 speed internal-geared hub, fenders, front generator hub, rack etc.. It seems like it would be a good beater for around town. Oh well, I guess there is always Breezer.

I like it. Seven-speed makes sense, and internal hub probably makes sense too. Yes, I prefer a roadie for distance, but I prefer a hybrid for trails/bike paths or stop-start city riding. And remember Europe has a much better network of bike paths, used mostly by people ambling along with all the time in the world.

Seems like it'll force you to have a bit of a mountian bike riding position (the handlebars should be higher). That rack looks flimsy compared to most European racks. Although it'd be considered a good rack in America. The seat should be springed.

It's nice that it has lights and fenders but it looks a lot more like an American-style "hybrid" than a real comfort/cruiser bike.

I agree. Drop bars would be better, but otherwise it looks nice.

Good god what an ugly bike. I have nearly everything I need in a both short and long distance all weather commute in my ocr touring.

what's keeping the tension on that chain? EBB? sliding dropouts?
i'm sure not seeing horizontal drops on that thing.

please don't say they're relying on a magic ratio for chain tension

i'm too lazy to dig up a link or a picture, but they also make something similar that comes stock with a rohloff and a brooks. also only sold in europe.

well the Rohloff ones come with an EBB, so......?

It could be available if you wanted it - enough. If I wanted it I would ask my brother, who is visiting Scotland, to pick one up for me. If You want it put a request on E-bay for someone going over there to bring one back for you. Cannondales' marketing mavens have decided what we want to buy and that is all they will sell us.

Yep, anything can be had. I actually have found a shop in the UK that will ship it to me. I won't buy a bike I haven't seen though. I just posted this because I was pissed that they don't sell them here.

If I pay a ridiculous amount of cash for a heavy, slow, ugly bike anytime soon, it will be a Koga Miyata!

Keep searching DE2, it might even be possible for bike dealer to get it for you.

or did you mean what kind of aluminum?

the standard kind, stiff, rigid, hard, light, unforgiving, but it has a suspension seat post.

It doesn't come with a nexus 7. It comes with a nexus premium 8 speed. Much better shifting and ultegra level bearings and seals. Much less internal drag. The frame is typical Cannondale Aluminum. Light and stiff. The bike in the picture has a suspension shock or as cdale calls them a headshock. Helps smooth out the ride. Weight should be right at 30 lbs. It has a EBB to adjust chain tension. Cdale sells a bike with the same frame, but without the EBB and Internal gearhub here in the states it is called the street 600. Go ride it and if you like it then order the one from the UK. Who did you find that would ship you a UK bike and how much did they quote you for shipping?

Yeah, ok, not got a rack or mudguards, but has got mounting for them. They do a cheaper version with 'normal' gears too. Or a version with 700c tyres.

Sweet looking simple commuter. The saddle should have been sprung, though, but whats the use if you're gonna replace it with a Brooks....

edit: on second look they are not so similar but have some qualities that are comparable

There is also a "Vintage Nexus" model that comes with a Brooks seat and matching leather handlebar grips. As an added plus (IMO), it doesn't have the red, blue and yellow bits.
