I'm Melting!!!!!
 
Weighed myself today. Wow!!!! :D

When I stepped on the scale three weeks ago, I was 222 pounds. I am 5 foot 5 inches tall with a size 40 waist.

On Monday I was 213.

Today I stepped on the scale to show my wife the 213 and I am now at 210! :beer:

I have biked over 40 miles this week and I am feeling great! I have noticed that my cravings for candy have gone way down and I have been trying to watch what I eat somewhat. I have had a donut here and there, but nowhere near the amount I was scarfing down earlier this month.

Sad part is that I just bought new pants last month and they will soon be too big. ;)

I should have done this years ago.

This is just after two weeks of biking just three days a week. Can't wait till I am in shape enough to do it every day. There are still two hills on my route that kick my butt, but there were five of them when I first started that got me.

To all the dough boys out there like me, keep at it! It is worth it no matter how much those teeny bopper kids laugh at us. :)

Keep this up and when you turn side ways no one will see you. Graet job, keep the bike upright and your feet moving. In no time you'll be down to 190 lbs.

Great! When I first began commuting my appetite went from enormous to absolutely enormous and I started eating the wrong foods to fill my cravings. I gained a few pounds but now I'm back to my regular diet with a few "cheat foods" thrown in for good measure & back to my normal weight.

I also had 4 hills that kicked my arse when I started out. A couple of months later they're no longer a problem for me. It definately gets easier the more you do it. The more you get familiar with your route the better you'll get at choosing the right gears at the right time.

Keep at it and congratulations on the weight loss! :)

Very cool. I am having a similar reaction. At first, it was like nothing was happening - and then sudden drop. In fact, I think we are at a dead heat in weight right now!

I am looking forward to a ride this morning. No place to go and lots of time to do it in!

You suck. I've been riding and commuting since last year and lately have been putting in 100 mile weeks and I've only gone from 225 lbs to 220 lbs. I feel good and all, but commuting hasn't done much for me weight wise. :(

First, a hearty congratulations! I know from personal experience how hard it is to lose weight.

Second, frame the new pants a) on the refrigerator, or b) over the bathroom scale.

Third, you are doing this just in time. When the mother ship comes, I have been told "they" will eat us fat ones first.

Not sure if I will have the guts to try winter commuting here in Anchroage. The sidewalks/trails are notorious for their winter role as a snow dump site and the thought of pedaling 12.5 miles when it is 15 degrees out sounds a wee bit chilly.

That's great! The early part, when your body is getting used to a bike, is always the most difficult part and it sounds like you're enjoying it. Keep up the good work!

How about in terms of muscle development? Perhaps clothing size? Blood pressure? I've been riding 40-50 miles a week for the last 6. My weight has stayed the same, but I've gone down an entire clothing size above the waist, half of one below the waist. I've even had to have my helmet straps tightened. My blood pressure is finally starting to go down. It's really noticible, but I haven't actually lost weight. I'm losing fat and gaining muscle.

I'm in this group. I have been riding and playing racquetball, doing aerobics for years and haven't lost an ounce. I have been stuck at 232-238 since I got there.

I recently increased my commute from 22 to 30 miles a day and gained 4 lbs. Go figure. Must be muscle:rolleyes:
