I ride an increasingly modified Electra Rat Rod 3 Speed. I put a stronger alloy post on it and replaced the rear rim with Sun's strongest wide. I expect to be putting a stronger chain on there and modifying the handle bars before the summer is through. I'm also going to be beefing up the rear rack to hold low-slung sadlebags that will ride down by the hubs.

HO. I've run through a number of three speeds. For some reason my cheap American All-Pro seems to stay around while my other bikes (with more or less gears) come and go all the time. I logged 30 miles on the 3 speeder today! It's heavy - but actually still lighter than most of those wal-mart mountain bikes (I seriously can't see how they weigh so much! I mean my 3-speed has got fenders a generator, lights, and an internal geared hub, and it's still a few pounds lighter than those beasts).

I don't, but I would some of the time if I had a suitable one. The only 3 spd I have at the moment is a rather battered Moulton Mini, and the luggage carrier is broken off from it (not unusual on those models). If and when I come across a sit up and beg 3 spd in my size, I'll snap it up, and it'll get ridden plenty.
I notice in London there are plenty of old 3 spds being used. They're cheap to pick up, practical, reliable, the weight and lack of gear ratios is not a big deal in the relatively flat city, and they aren't popular with thieves. I'd say that in London, you've got a majority of multi-speed mountain bikes, and then about an equal assortment of road bikes (new and fancy, or old and touring-style, like mine), 3 speeds, and folders - loads of folders.

So glad to know that there's a forum that can cure me of this uniqueness.
