Since late fall, commuting through winter (diet and other exercise) I've lost about 20 lbs. I have another 20 lbs to go. Currently I'm 212 lbs.

Marylandnewbie - welcome back; I'm glad you enjoyed your C&O trip. I qualified on Saturday by riding 50 miles in under 5 hours total time.

I'm getting replacement wheel and freewheel on my 1970's Raleigh (SheRa) and will try to put some commuting miles in to break in the old brooks B-17 narrow saddle. If it starts working well I may buy a regular black B17 for my modern road bike (****).

Well after 4 years of hard riding my Ksyriums started to creak and groan, so I gave Eric at Ergott Wheels a call. I told Mr. Ergott that I needed a set of wheels that I could commute on and also ride a double century on. So he talked and I listened and low and behold he arrived at a nice solution.

I just finished my first commute on the wheels, which are:

White Industry H1 Hubs, 32 hole (hubs are quite beautiful)
Velocity Aerohead rims, OC rear
Wheelsmith 14g spokes drive side
Sapim Laser non drive side and front, 3x all around
Brass Nipples and Velocity plugs, so no rim strip is needed

Total weight 1544 grams, Pictures of the wheels can be seen at
https://weightweenies.starbike.com/ph...958&highlight=

Needless to say that I am through with low spoke count wheels. The Ergott built wheels were much smoother over the small bumps in the road and gave an overall better ride. I also could dive into corners better than with the Ksyriums. Will give an update once I have more than 20 miles on the wheels.

PS Newbie these are incredible strong spokes all the way around, even with the low weight.

First Impression: Great

For y'all, I dug out the scale this morning. It was in the cabinet under the sink and under a whole lot of junk! Where does that stuff come from?

So it looks like I've lost 7 lbs since I don't know when, maybe a couple of years. Losing weight was not my reason for biking to work. Avoiding subway bombs was. If I lose 7 more it will be the limit and I will have to start eating more. Five more would be fine, however.

Today's commute was interesting. KIDS, DON'T TRY THIS AT HOME. Do not race a bus in the middle lane going down Rhode Island Avenue at 8am rush hour. Do not swoosh your bike between a bus and a dumptruck an 25mph.

heh heh. it was fun, though.

Well got my computer and installed it. Works fine. But I did notice a big cut in the front tire. So now I'm off to get a replacement tire.

I'm working on a bike missting system for thoses hot day rides. I need to fine a good push button vale to use on the system. I'll post picture if it works out.

Tibikefor2 - Thanks (actually my race in Bellehaven park, though) I rode the road bike home again today. I have decided I need to get a new seat for it, and that it needs to be the same as on my other bike. Switching back and forth is all fine except for the Buttocks region - I must have stpeed five time to try to adjust the seat, but it just never felt right.

Bikers are great. On Tuesday I got to work only to realize that I had forgotten my keys. I couldn't lock up my bike - but of course the first guy I asked locked my bike up with his, and the second guy I asked had a spare lock in his office. I thought I was in for a double commute, but not with guys like these around.

Good weekend all.

slow and easy afternoon commute, with time out to take some photographs, even. I tried a slightly different commute with pretty good results. Avoids the rougher Friday night hangouts.

It's Bastille Day. I bought a cake for the office, as in Let Them Eat Cake. Nice Friday afternoon diversion. Bonne Fete for those of you who celebrate it.
