Best Shoe Store in NYC?
 

The clipless pedals arrived today. Now I need shoes. But I've tried three stores -- my favorite LBS, City Bikes on 38th St., which is too small to stock more than a couple pairs, plus Toga and Gotham -- but the selection is exactly two MTB shoes and a thousand pairs of road shoes starting at $200. I'm thinking of trying Paragon. Any other ideas? (Looking for MTB shoes.)

I bought my road Shoes(sidi) at R&A Cycles. They have a huge selection of shoes. I tried on about 5-6 different shoes before I got ones that fit. I picked up a pair of Cannondale MTB shoes on at Sid's a few weeks ago. Got them for half-price on closeout and like them a lot. They're more or the touring MTB shoe. Sid's seems to have some shoes, but didn't seem to be as big a selection as R&A.

I came from Verrazano Bicycle Shop on 5th ave in Bklyn today and they had a good selection of road and racing shoes. I can't say much at all for their customer service though. Plus, they wanted $15 to install a rear rack that was already marked up.

Het, if you can, make a trip to paragon, they have a massive apparel and shoes selection, and additionally i'll help you out there, as a sale assosiate there, and we have alot of mountain shoes, sidis, cannondales, alot form adidas, some pearl izumi, and dioara.

So I go to Paragon. A much better selection than anywhere I've seen. I'm trying on five or six models, and the one that fits best, that speaks to me? It's an Adidas that's about $60 more than I want to spend. But the guy who's helping me is really patient, letting me try on all these different brands.... It finally hits me: You can't pay too much for a good pair of shoes. I asked the guy if he got commission, and he got a little sheepish; he didn't want to say. But it turns out he does. So I bought them.
And then I read this thread, and -- Jimbo. Was that you? Did you sell me a pair of Adidas Hammers today? Thanks.
