.... and now the weather.

We've finally been getting some rain in Perth recently.

Strangely enough, there's one lady at work who feels duty bound to give me a weather report around 4 o'clock each afternoon when she sees me walking past her desk in my cycling gear ready to head home.

Even though there are windows all around the building and part of my job is to give the forecast on the radio, she obviously feels that I need her to let me know what the riding conditions will be like for me.

For days now it's been, "You'll get wet on your way home." No kidding.

It was fine this afternoon so I got told, "You won't get wet today."

I suppose she's just trying to make conversation but it does wear thin.

I would say thank you and next time can you please bring the doppler printouts and the nexrad printouts as well. Can you also find a medicine man and give me the weather to and while he is at it he can bless my bike

bahahhaa.. you give the weather report on the radio, and she STILL tells you?!?!?
Thats gold!

I have a coworker like that, but my building is concrete with no windows.
I just check the weather cams online.

It's probably just her making conversation. You might try engaging her in some other topic dinner plans, sports, american idol whatever. Perhaps you'll get a different parting comment then. I personally would rather slit my wrists that get a parting comment each day about american idol though so think it through ...

A coworker said that to me once. My reply was, "Yes, I imagine so. But I checked before leaving home and fortunately water doesn't make me melt."

Someone else asked me once if I ride my bike in the rain. "Absolutely," I told her. "It takes 40 years off my state-of-mind."

During the recent heat spell, a different coworker asked if I rode to work that day. "Oh yes, and I'm grateful for my bike. I sure wouldn't want to walk in weather like this."

Of course there's always the underlying thought that getting wet is a bad thing and it's a good reason not to cycle. It's only water. Sure I'd prefer a dry ride but rain isn't going to hurt me.

I was asked a few days ago by one of my radio guests when it was particularly wet, whether I ever consider driving to work on 'days like these'. I considered the question for a second and realised that the thought had never entered my head. My bike is how I get to work. I never consider driving.
