Arkels kick ass. I just got a pair of T-42s last June, and love them for my commute and my touring. For what they cost, though, they'd BETTER last a freakin' lifetime! I know what you're going thru...

It looks like you don't have a lot of clearance for your foot while pedaling. Is it just the angle or you do hit the pannier with your heel?

I had one, my sister lost it. I used it in combination with arkel's bug for commuting. The Utility basket stayed on the bike with shoes, bike lock, lunch and stuff. The bug went around campus with me. Going to try a messenger bag for a while, easy for school. But want to get another basket for grocry shopping.

Arkel gives a full lifetime transferable warranty on their panniers, and they stand by it. They have the best customer service I've ever dealt with, bar none. You have nothing to worry about.

It is very easy to adjust the Arkel panniers to provide sufficient foot clearance even with a multi-tool. I managed to even fit the utility basket on the back of my very tall Trek road bike (63cm) with my very large feet (size 12). I had to modify the rack to get it mostly level as the seat stays were too steep but it was no problem to adjust the Utility Basket.

I was actually going to post almost exactly the same thing! I got my UB 2 days ago - and already I love it! I'm itching to take a trip out to the grocery store with it, because I'm sure that it will fit a full gallon of milk with room to spare

Oh, and I have it adjusted so that it's as far back on my rack as it can go, and my heel still hits it once in a while. I think I'm getting used to it, though, because this morning my foot didn't hit it at all.
