Ortlieb Backroller or Backroller Plus?
Rainy season in Portland is around the corner and I'm thinking about waterproof panniers. Anyone care to comment on the differences between the Ortlieb Backroller and Backroller Plus? I know the regular has the PVC material and the Plus has coated cordura which is also waterproof, a little lighter, but more expensive. Would you recommend one over the other? If all thing are equal, I'm leaning toward the Backroller because I can get it in bright yellow and save a few bucks. Thanks.

I actually prefer the PVC material to the cordura. The cordura may be longer lasting, but esthetically I prefer the PVC, somehow it seems like it is more waterproof. I have Ortlieb products made of both materials.
Buy it from somewhere other than the Ortlieb USA site. They lost one of my orders and I can't get a response from them. It's infuriating me. Wayne at The Touring Store is a very friendly proprietor (as are many others, I just have experience buying from Wayne and feel comfortable recommending him)

I got my Backroller Plus' at the touring store... highly recommended. If I had to do it over again, I might consider the Backrollers, only because I think the whole closure system is a little weird on the plus. You have to twist the top over a few times, shut the clasp at the top, and then attach the shoulder strap to the two ends of the top, and ensure the strap is held in the middle by a small bracket on the lower front.
It seems like the regular bag just closes very simply with a clasp or two, though I have no direct experience.

The Plus has the QL2 mounting system which offers more adjustment than the QL1 system on the regular BackRoller. I have the Plus, and am quite happy with them as I needed to adjust the mounting system as only the QL2 system can.
