See, by saying this, I've appointed myself as an authority on identifying authority regulators, and will likely be investigated. This is sure to create a recursive mess that will implode some fabric of the universe, or at the very least, pollute this thread with comments that attempt to.

Most of the people who are into riding a bike enough to jabber about it on the internet value bikes for something beyond utility as you define it. They are also posting out of more than a simple enthusiasm for riding a bike. As human beings in a consumer culture most of like approval and enjoy feeling "in the know" to some extent, myself included. If this board didn't feed your ego in some way you wouldn't be here.

make it a challenge to yourself. if someone drives you crazy, be the bigger person and refuse to engage with them. ultimately that is much more satisfying and less stressful than fighting with them.

i still argue with people sometimes, but i've realized that most people who start fights on the internet are doing it because of a personality deficiency, not because of dedication to a principle. now that i know that, i don't engage with them so much, and i feel a lot better. it's really hard to ignore shameless baiting, though. if you have to say something, try to make it something to defuse the situation, so the only thing they can say will be nothing at all, or something that says very clearly "i'm an instigator."

using "ignore" functions is a band-aid for a bigger problem. it probably won't make you feel any better!

No, strictly a commuter on an old trek and an internal geared (shimano nexus) bike. I have little interest in fixed gear as I see it a de-evolution. That said, the fact that people enjoy them does not bother me. People are passionate about issues and it often skews there perspective. (hint. hint.) If some one believes that a fixed gear is best, then it is. For them. Christians are partial to Jesus and Muslims to Mohammed. ( They both road fixies I think...coaster brakes had not been invented!) Why at this point you even care about it is beyond me. That leads me to believe that you are in actuality a bike flipper who is making big $$$ selling old road bikes to young hipsters and you proported dislike of the genre is only a smoke screen to keep the supply lines open! By convincing others NOT to try it and decide for themselves, you ensure an ample supply of road bikes to be flipped for massive profits!!!!!! As said in some Shakespeare play somewhere (MacBeth?) "Thou doeth protest too much!"

Think of this as practice for developing patience and self control. What you develop here may be applied to the a-hole in the cage who's yelling at you to get on the sidewalk so he can hurry up and get to the stop sign 100 ft in front of you.

Now to answer your question I have never posted in the S/S fixed Forum because it is not really my interest; commuting is. Cultists of any breed crowing about what is "best for them" doesn't bother me in the slightest and never draws a word of disagreement from me. Only when they expand their affection into some sort of Universal Truth do they raise my hackles.
