Planet Bike Alias HB Mount

Hi All,

Nashbar is selling the Planet Bike Alias HB Mount for 89.99. I cannnot find any exact specs for this particular model. Not sure what they mean by HB. I am guessing handlebar. Anyone have experience with this light? How heavy is the battery? Where does the battery mount?

Would you get this before a L&M Solo, NiteHawk Raptor or Phoneix (SE) or a Planet Bike Insight?

Been researching a lot, and as expected getting lotz of different answers.

I need the bike for commutes on fairly well lit residential streets. It will be for the days I start my commute before the sun comes up, which may or may not be that often.

Thanks!

I have an alias. The battery is about 1 lb, i like the light.
If your on well lit streets and dont need the light in order to see where your going, but instead just need a light so cars can see you, then get an inexpensive led that blinks.
I bought mine because it was priced right.

There is another thread about this light on the first page also, check it for more info.

I borrowed a Cateye 500ii from a friend. It has a 2.4 watt halogen bulb (i think so at least). It was not quite bright enough for me to drive very fast at some points on my ride. Are the newer LED's brighter? Such as the cateye el-500 or el520?

If a halagen isnt bright enough for you to see where your going to the point you have to slow down, then the streets arnt really well lit i take it?

Answer to your question, no, led's are not usually bright enough to light the road enough to ride fast, which is why i asked in the first response if you needed it to see by or just to be seen.

Be seen : use an led
To see : halogen
To ride fast : hid

There are dark patches where the street lights do not give enough light. Does the alias battery fit in the water bottle holder? Do you have the same Alias they are selling at Nashbar.com?

Same one.
Mountrs under the top tube, has a long velcro elastic strap that wraps over the top tube and holds the battery tight to it. You could mount to your down tube also.

I like the slightly exposed bulb, it lets some light escape from underneath which lights the front hub area of my bike. I commute 2 hours a day all thru pacific northwest rain, and rain has never caused a problem with the non enclosed bulb. I mount my light under my handlebars, so that I can still flip my bike upside down to change a flat without having to fitz around with the lights. No idea how it compares to the othger lights you listed since ive not used them.

Is the wattage adjustable? Doesn't say exactly on the Nashbar web site. Also, Does the battery get in the way??
