About once a week I'll run home (in fact, I usually take a longer route to make it an even 10 km (6.2 mi).

Morning:
10 minutes by car,
25 by bike

Evening:
20+ minutes by car,
25 by bike

Tabor 04-20-07 03:13 PM

My commute is 20 miles by car or by bike. On a good day I can get to work in 20 minutes in the car. On a good day I can get to work in 120 minutes on the bike. However, I am looking to get the bike commute down to 1.5 hours or less. Also, on a bad day (pretty much every Friday) my commute back home in the evening is horrid (by car) but not by bike.

Ganesha 04-20-07 03:19 PM

For me:

During rush hour, commuting by bike is easily faster then by car. During non commute times the car is faster.

Psydotek 04-20-07 03:20 PM

About 35 miles by car or bike. The bike commute is probably acouple of miles longer.

Car - ~45-50 minutes from front door to clocking in.
Bike (4 mile bike, train ride, 2 mile bike) - ~1:40

jdraughn 04-20-07 03:25 PM

About 9 minutes by bike and 5 minutes by car on the way to work, but on the way home it's mostly up hill so it takes about 20 minutes to get home by bike. I swear people driving by must think im giving birth or something from the look of pain in my face when im climbing those hills.

Nicodemus 04-20-07 03:49 PM

10km.

Same by car or bike (20 minutes)

Went on a 15km detour to my LBS the other day cuz bike was borked, mild rush hour traffic - I could have done it faster by bike. What is wrong with these people? In Holland of all places

ItsJustMe 04-20-07 03:50 PM

Same distance. About 20 minutes by car, 35 to 50 minutes by bike. All rural, most of the year no wait for much of anything though if I time it wrong there's a 10 minute extra time to get through the one town I go through due to school traffic in the morning. This delay is equal whether bike or car.

BTW that's the most confusing thread title I've seen in a while.

rando 04-20-07 04:05 PM

biking is way longer, but more enjoyable!

car-- rush hour, 20 mins non rush hour 10 min.

bike-- 30-35 mins

CigTech 04-20-07 04:14 PM

I commute 3.5 miles to work. In the car it takes me 15 to 19 minutes to get to work. on the bike it takes me 10.5 to 13.5 min.

SDRider 04-20-07 04:31 PM

Same distance either way but it takes me about 20 minutes by car (assuming no traffic snarls) and it takes me about 40-45 minutes by bike (regardless of snarls). :D

No way a zombie could outrun a bike. Not a true Romero 'walking dead' zombie. They're slow.

mtnwalker 04-20-07 04:45 PM

11 miles travel either by bike or car.

20-25 minutes by car + high amounts of stress
vs
45-55 minutes by bike + high amounts of biking bliss

I don't know about you guys but when I drive my car I become lazy, sleep late, wake up late and depressed. When I ride the bike I'm the exact opposite.

But the new 'fast zombies' will get you. They are fast and tireless. When you bonk, you are dead. Ummmm, or is that undead?

jmeier 04-20-07 04:51 PM

4.5 miles either way. about 15 min by car, 19 by bike. except late at night when its more like 9 min by car...

worker4youth 04-20-07 04:52 PM

My commute by taking transit, biking, or car is all within 15 minutes of each other (1 hour to 1.25 hours)

yeah.. but even if they zombies are fast, a bike would still be one of the best choices.

think about if a zombie outbreak happened, you would get NOWHERE in a car, every street would be completely jammed, and these people are now just sitting ducks for zombies.

Also, how will you refuel? Siphon gas from abandoned cars? sounds pretty dangerous when any one can be a zombie death trap.

Really bicycle is the way to go.. Silent, they wont even know you are there or where you went while the zombies hone in on those making loud noises, requires no fuel, can squeeze between traffic jams quickly and efficiently, you can repair it yourself quickly and easily, and you can carry it with you over bad terrain.

Of course the big downside is that you can't drive a bike through a mass of zombies crushing them underneath on your way to freedom.

Lamplight 04-20-07 05:27 PM

It's about 2.8 miles by bike, and 1.5 miles by car at the most. And yet I'd rather ride the 2.8 in freezing rain than drive 1.5 any day. :D

Zeuser 04-20-07 05:59 PM

Commute is 9.4km to work. There's a bike trail running along the road i usually take.
In order:

1 - Car ~ 10mins
2 - eBike ~ 30 mins
3 - regular bike ~ 40 mins
4 - Walk ~ 1hr20mins
5 - Bus ~ 1hr45mins

No train or subway applies in my case. And yes, walking is faster than the bus becuase the bus route with its 2 connections is poorly organized.

Ricardo 04-20-07 06:11 PM

Route is the same by car and by bike but biking takes 2/3 the time than car.

RR

Chuck G 04-20-07 06:22 PM

Car route is 9 miles and takes 15-20 minutes

Bike route is 11 miles and takes 45-50 minutes

comet the dog 04-20-07 06:27 PM

same distance with either method, 4 miles about 10 min in car and 15 to 20 by bike. dont know why but it seems i have a head wind coming or going.

Az B 04-20-07 07:12 PM

It takes me about an hour one way by bike (16 miles) and about 30 minutes one way by car. (20 miles, almost all freeway) But that's only when there's no traffic. When I work 8-5 on a weekday, the car commute is an hour. The bike commute remains unchanged. Most of the roads I ride on have no traffic, and for the few traffic jams I enounter, I filter, use the sidewalk, shortcuts, etc. So traffic doesn't slow me down on the bike.

20-25 minutes by bike - 10 by car

sonatageek 04-21-07 04:57 AM

My commute is about 14 miles by car or bike. Car takes about 20-25 minutes and the bike takes right around 60 minutes. I have used the bike 3 times this month, first 2 times I took the bus in -- which had about a mile ride to and from the bus stops, and road home. This past Thursday I rode both ways and it took 60 minutes in and about 57 minutes to get home.
