Yours is a good solution. There are commercial ones - like https://www.hosercam.com/ that would be good for cycling use, but expensive. See "video products" link, and check out the (non-cycling) video samples!

Helmet cam dicussions show-up on BF once in a while. I'd like to get one but I've never found the affordable options satisfying enough to pick one up.

Those cameras aren't available up here, and I haven't seen any on ebay.
Others like the atc-1000 are still a little out of reach for a "toy". I have other things to spend my commuting money on.
It would be cool though :-)

If I had the money for one, I'd seriously consider it.
It would be handy for reporting road ragers later...I'm usually focused on staying out of wrecks instead of getting plate numbers. Might even consider it for that "what's your commute like?" thread.
In reality, I'd probably be too nervous about breaking it in a potential wreck to put it on my bike, though.
