First Flat. Ever.
1 Attachment(s)
So today, after a nice commute home (driving my car, had to...) I decided to go for a short 30 min. ride. For my surprize, my rear wheel had a flat. Good thing is I could fix it at the luxury of a repair stand and with time, no hurry. Bad thing is that AFTER I fixed it, the hole is too big and I got a second flat. Seems like I need a new tire too.
Well, it was a nice 127 Miles shot without any flats, so I guess I am riding with enough attention to road hazards. Now, which one is the bullet proof, Bad 4$$ commuter tire out there? Thank you. (attached picture of the chunk of glass that came out) |
See here. I think I just got unlucky. Nothing was going to stop that tack.
You can search, but tires that are mentioned frequently are Continnental Gatorskins, Specialized Armadillos, Schwalbe Marathons, and Vittoria Randonneurs. |
armadillos are great i've still gotten the occassional flat. No tire is perfect.

I got a flat today also. Rear tire + construction staple 1.5 miles from work. Had to call the wife to rescue me, because I forgot my flat kit at the house. I'm pretty sure I'll be getting a set of Tuffy's tomorrow from my LBS on the way home from work. Fortunately my wife brought in my flat kit (and a new tube, just in case) and I was able to get my tire back in shape to ride home tomorrow.

I got my first flat a couple of days ago thanks to a 2cm long piece of glass, but considering I've done 8672km and I'm on my second set of tyres it's not too bad! (I only run standard Schwalbe Marathons, nothing tough) Fortunately i was only a few hundred meters from work when it happened so I just fixed it in my lunch hour.

I got a flat Monday, because of acorns!
I ride on the multipurpose trail and it is really covered now with leaves and many, many crunched up acorn pieces. Nothing I can do but keep riding over them until the parks department sweeps the bikepath. |
This question pops up a fair bit.
Armadillos are the standard recommendation. I use them- they're good. |
