Couple of band-aids, sterile wipes, Advil, small tube of antiseptic, all in an Altoids box. Also pack of tissues.

I've usually got a bandana and some duct tape in my bags for basic stuff. My touring first aid kit is very extensive, but in the city I'm close enough to immediate care.

I've got a few of the bandaids with the 1.5" pads in my desk drawer for covering road rash at the office, if necessary. There's a bandana in my bag and some duct tape wrapped around my frame pump for mid-ride skin repair.

So when I was younger (16) and leaving on a canoe trip into the MN-Canada boundary waters, my father (a physician) outfitted a firstaid kit that included surgical needle and thread for stitches. That would be a tiny addition. He told us gaping gashes should be cleaned and sown shut if a hospital is days away. We just cringed and tossed it into the backpack. (I think the concern was bear maulings)

When I remember to, I've usually got a small kit with band-aids and some sterile antiseptic wipes. I always have my cell-phone with me - small cuts can be cleaned and patched, big stuff - call for help. I usually have some Advil on me anyways since my knees sometimes get sore (I've had surgery on my left knee twice).
