Getting cagers to laugh at themselves

Now that it's dark when I ride and the rains have returned, most people think that bike commuting conditions are less than optimal. But things could be worse -- I could be in a car.

The first 1 1/2 hrs of my day were spent in an important meeting. Almost an hour late, one of the key players shows up obviously stressed out and apologizing profusely with an explanation to the effect of "I have no idea what happened -- I was stuck in traffic for well over an hour, and I never saw an accident".

It just so happens I knew exactly what happened. I just replied "There was a minor rear ender on the bridge that backed up traffic for miles. No one was hurt. It was actually pretty funny unless you were one of the poor schmucks who drove. If it's any consolation, it made me smile when I thought about you as I blew by the whole mess on my bike....."

Everyone in the room (including the latecomer) laughed.
