Problems mounting the Bike Planet Superflash on the frame.
I just got the superflash yesterday and already got my eyes slightly dazzled by the brightness. It is by far the second brightest commercial taillight I know of. Dinotte being the first. Now I already have a seat flash with like 7 modes and that's my brightest flash before getting the superflash.
I'm trying to mount the superflash to the rear frame ' \ ' area the box discription and the moulding seem to force you ot mount it on the RIGHT side of the bike rather then the left side. I tried turning the mount around and it seems the ' \ ' is a bit too thick (I think) to mount the screw in. Also I use a rear rack so I'm concerned about something like 50% of the superflashes effectiveness cut off by the rack because it's being mounted so far into the racks ' /|\ ' area. I was thinking originally of mounting that on the ' /|\ ' area but found out that the mount was too big for it. :( The superflash would make nice side left and right visiblity for sure. My original thought was to buy one and see how I liked it and if I liked it I'd get another and mount it facing to the rear with one on both sides of the ' /|\ ' rack. Zero_Enigma |
Not exactly sure what you are talking about, but I think I get the jist. You are trying to mount this on the seat stay correct? see below:
http://www.exploratorium.edu/cycling/images/frame.jpg If that is the case I found some of the same problems with my rack. Could you mount the light to post of the rack itself by using the two rubber pieces that are included? I could not because the fender mounts were too close to the rack on mine. However, it should work just fine on either side. |
I had no problems mounting it to the seat stay on the left side on all my bikes. I just used the rubber shims that were included and it screwed on tight.
EDIT: But yeah, the rack is in the way if you mount it on the seat stay. Can you mount it on the back of the rack itself? |

Zero_Enigma Some bike shops have a big box full. Is the other problem mounting the light on the legs or stays of the rack itself ? It can be done but you need a small enough clamp. Try the bike shop, look at the ones that Cateye sells on their website. If I could see a photo or you can measure the diameter of the rack and the seat stay I probably could find one that fits. I have two superflash so I can see the brackets made for them, in fact I have four brackets. |
Why not mount the SuperFlash up high on the seatpost?
|
because most people with racks actually put stuff on them, and that would likely block the superflash.

To the OP - isn't there a "tab" for attaching a blinkie on your rack? I recently installed one on the Trek rack on my daughter's bike, with no particular problems (other than mounting it upside down due to the rack configuration). |
