Change in plans, quick light selection

I've been waiting 2 mos for my dynohub and B&M lights from PeterWhiteCycles, and I've run out of time. My crumby bottle dynamo made a sound like a garbage disposal eating sand, and then it stopped. My only other light is a 5 led PB Beamer, which is OK to be seen, but I can't see with it.

So, I'm ready to give up on the dynamo, cancel my order, and go with battery powered. I read through the lighting sticky, and decided that I need LIon since I ride in lots of cold weather. I'm a value guy, and LED would likely outlast the battery (which is the majority of the cost), and HID is too expensive to replace. I think Halogen will do just fine.

Nashbar has this L&M that seems to fit the bill. Although its a bit pricey, it's the same as the dynohub wheel I was going to buy without the lights. I take care of my stuff, but expect it to last at least 4-5 years for this price. Any late night feedback before I pull the trigger?

I'm happy with my 10W halogen under streetlights. For non-lit areas, I'd like a little more--I was thinking around 15W. This light's 13W might fit the bill.

Still, you're going to get more light out of this than from the dynohub and B&M lights. And the price seems right.

The l&m lights are VERY bright. For $200 is a great deal, very light, and it usually throws out 2-3watts more light than standard halogens because of the efficiency of their reflectors.

The logic feature provides for a soft-start, which stresses the bulb a lot less. Most bulbs usually pop when you first start them cold. So the soft-start should prolong the life of your bulb too.

Done deal. Thanks for the feedback.

I don't want to get too excited, but this looks like a great setup: digital charger, Li-ion, adjustable beam, helmet and bar mount, 3 settings... $194 with 2nd day air using w226.

The charger is great, it charges at almost the same rate that the light uses. So if you forget to charge it the night before (you usually have some charge left), a 40 min charge in the morning will get you close to an hour.

EDIT: Nevermind about the power settings, it comes with the SL battery, which is ligher and has the usual advertised run time. You'll really love the side windows though, my ARC doesn't have this but my dual does, it lights up your bike computer very well.

Looking forward to it. I'll have to start growing some pigment back in my eyes to use this light.

myself thats way too much to pay for a halogen setup. you can build one for around 100.00 with Li on cells and the electronics. http://www.batteryspace.com/index.as...&Category=1012 will get you a HID setup for the same price.

You can also build one, strap it to your bike, and forget about it. Just because time isn't tangible doesn't mean you can't waste it too. Money's meant to be spent, you can't take it with you.

I'm not sure that LiIon will provide hotter run times in the cold.
