carradice Nelson with a great way to keep the bag off my legs. an idea i pinched from the "Carradice Hacks" section over at at Wallbike.com with a few of my own obsesive compulsive tweaks.

Mine, although I don't commute it as much as the SS... maybe I'll make that a New Year's resolution.

dirtyphotons, it's funny how our RR's don't look anything alike. I have yet to see another one in person.

That is really nice.

The simplicity of the clean frame in white does wonders.

Great looking bike.

yeah, we both even have deep v's and brookses, and still you can barely tell it's the same frame.

it's a really versatile bike. i think it's a combo of the curvy stays and the canti mounts that scares off a lot of track bike fans. too bad, because i think it fills a huge gap in the fixed commuter market.

if i decide to race cross next season i'll be stripping it down to the essentials, and possibly getting an internally geared hub. gotta upgrade my engine first though ;)

Cromulent 12-19-06 10:25 AM

Here's mine. Back when it was clean and new.

So shiny then. So not that way now. Still fun.

lpw71 12-19-06 10:43 AM

All these RR's, here's my RR commuter. Although the commute is about a mile, so it looks nothing like any of the other commuters out there!

As a side note, I flatted this morning on the stock Duro that came with the bike. Any recommendations for some new tires, I've been looking to upgrade for the winter anyway?

Yeah, it is a cyclocross frame afterall w/ some eyelets for racks and fenders for those of us more commuting minded riders. I only got mine cuz I'm a clyde and wanted something that could take the punishment of a daily beating.

edit: And now there's 4 RR's, none of which look the same. I think fixie riders really do like customizing the look of their bikes.

I put Conti Gatorskins on mine. So far so good. I made sure to skid out the Duros first to get my money's worth tho. ;)

Nice. I coast on a ss Cross Check when it rains too, which lately has been a lot.

max-a-mill 12-19-06 01:16 PM

jeesus bill, what the hell are you protecting that top tube of yours from??? ;)

as for tires, lately i been feisty and just running normal road bike tires. so far only one flat but three torn sidewalls (luckily none so bad that i couldn't ride it home)???? the reason this experiment satarted is i had an old stack of road tires to rip through. i am on my last set now, michelin pro races, which despite being ridiculously thin have held up pretty good so far. i have learned though that most roadie 23's have a very limited lifespen if you push them hard on gravel.

through this latest "test" i may have learned that although regular tires are definitely more fragile than the touring tires i used to use exclusively; they don't seem as easy to flat as i remember. maybe i have just gotten better at keeping my tire pressures up since i last tried this or maybe i am just overdue for a flat.

Falkon 12-19-06 01:22 PM

I ran Pro Race tires on my road bike, and I've got a conti and an avocet on right now. No flats, but I don't ride on gravel. I'm considering leaving the CX tires on when I get my Fuji Cross and making my commute to work into a cyclocross commute so I can just roll over the gravel and jump off the bike and run with it if I need. Oh man this thing is gonna be sweet!
