Are people hitting on my bike?
I've been commuting to work with my Giant Hybrid for 2 years now. Fellow commuters occasionally talk to me at traffic lights etc. Just small talk; whazz up etc...
Get this: I recently bought a 2007 Trek 520 - black, super cool. And every single day that I rode my new bike, I have had at least 3-4 cyclists getting out of their ways to talk to me!!!
What is up with that? Is everyone in the Holiday mood or is it the bike? ls my bike a dude magnet? I'm considering telling my single girlfriends to ditch the puppies and get a sleek bike!

You're the dude magnet...the bike just highlights it all the more...like a slinky black evening gown.

I agree with Chipcom, you are the dude magnet. The bike just tells them that you are serious about your cycling and probably in very good condition.
So yeah, ditch the puppies if biker boys are what you are looking for. If you are looking for dog lovers, then puppies are still the best bet.

I've got a 2007 Trek520 as well ... and people don't talk to me
Wonder if it's the tummy
But BLACK? What possessed them to paint the thing black. It's stunning after a bath, but as soon as you go within cooee of something dirty, like the road, it looks ... well, dirty

Riding a 520 or other touring bike is currently a hot wave of coolness in cycling. The black 520 IS downright sexy - I've heard comments like that at the shop.
And yes, please tell your single friends to get a sleek bike.

Speaking of avoiding work, I found this. No connection to me.

Let's see... hot bike, young fit female who obviously into riding. Energy levels high, great mood, life is good. Yes, fertile ground for temptation. If it gets to be too much just crank it up to 400 watts for 10 minutes, then 330 watts for another 5 minutes to weed them out.

I have been thinking about the whole thing this morning, since I am at work and I really don't feel like working. And I think I figured out what's going on...
Not only did I buy the new bike, I also bought racks and big, red panniers to go with it. When people talk to me, most of the conversations start with "So, where are you headed?".
A touring bike is not just a bike anymore. It's somewhat a sign of a free and adventurous spirit, aka dude magnet.

So, are ya busy later on?

I think you hit the nail on the head with that. A touring bike with panniers just screams that you probably have nothing tying you down and are free to do whatever you want to. For a lot of us, that is just a dream.
