My commuting days are done, for now

So this morning I was cut off riding to work. I locked up the brakes, turned, avoided the car but met the asphalt rather abruptly. I apparently passed out, and came to a moment later to find a good samaritan standing over me, making sure I was ok. The cops were called and they gave me a ride home. The offending cager never stopped. So it turns out I broke my elbow and I'm in a cast from my elbow to my fingers. So I'm done, for now.

Ow, it sounds like you hit your head? Hope you got checked out.

Glad you seem to be mostly OK though!

tomg 01-18-07 04:27 PM

wow, sorry to hear that. did you go to the hospital? any lasting head-aches? how's your vision?
hope you heal fast, spring is about 9 weeks away!
like rykaola asked, when you're ready to go again, is your bike ok?

vinnydelnegro 01-18-07 04:34 PM

wow...really sorry to hear that. any witnesses? is there a chance of figuring out who the driver is?

HardyWeinberg 01-18-07 04:35 PM

Sorry to hear that, get better.

oboeguy 01-18-07 04:40 PM

Dayum, that stinks. I suffered a sprained elbow once thanks to a car so I can empathize a bit.

velo2000 01-18-07 05:00 PM

And I thought my commute today was bad. I slipped on some ice on the bike path and went down HARD. My right elbow and hip are banged up. That sure took the fun out of the daily commute. I think I'll be avoiding the bike path until it melts completely. At least I didn't break anything.

Hope you heal up and are back on the bike soon.

I had a slow speed collision with the back of a construction pickup truck this morning. I was going like 5mph after the truck, following closely (too closely) when he stopped suddenly, probably to talk to the other workers on the side of the road. Face and knee met truck. Ouch.

Around here, our construction trucks say "Construction Vehicle. Do Not Follow." Makes you wonder what you're supposed to do if you find yourself behind one!

Glad both you and the OP are okay!

Sucks to hear it BDP. Get better soon!

Heal up soon pal, in the meantime we'll keep you entertained and raring to get back to riding again. ;)

gpsblake 01-18-07 06:20 PM

BigDaddyPete: Hope you get checked out in hospital because you passed out for a few minutes. You might have had a concussion they need to at least document for your own health. Hope you get well soon.

robtown 01-18-07 06:40 PM

Thank goodness someone watched your back when you were down. Heal up fast and take care of yourself.

Old Dirt Hill 01-18-07 06:48 PM

Bklyn 01-18-07 06:58 PM

BigDaddyPete 01-18-07 08:59 PM
