Weather In Europe

I've read it is real bad. Do any bike commuters have any experiences of interest?

Yep, around 70mph winds over the past few days. Had to commute 30 miles and was very lucky not to have been blown off my bike in heavy traffic! I think 10 people died from overturned trucks and such, but no cyclists from what i've heard. The winds had sort of died down last night too but instead we were treated to a downpour

Strange thing is though is that I rather enjoyed all of it at the end of the day...

I enjoyed riding into a snowstorm today. I know what you mean.

Dont't know about the mainland but the u.k has just been windy. Nowt that bad compared to storms in the rest of the world. My knees hurt today as my geared bike is in parts at the moment and riding a fixed gear with 76 gear inches up hill into high winds makes you hurt.

I wimped out of my ride and took the bus, the road is just too narrow and busy to risk getting blown about by a sudden 70mph gust or knocked off by a flying branch or tile. One cyclist was hit by falling braches.
Some plastic-covered scaffolding opposite my office was whipping about in the wind and the aluminum roof of a nearby Audi dealership was stripped completely and blown onto the main road .

It was quite impossible to ride yesterday.
Head wind will make you go backwards, crosswind topples you, tailwind accelerates you to dangerous speeds. Also, the rain drops feel like little stones when they hit your face.

Gales all across Northern Europe - max speed recorded was, IIRC, 123mph in Germany. 44 people killed.
