Which is Better: The Ride to Work? Or the Ride Home?
Maybe it's because in the winter the ride home is in the dark, but I find my morning ride is more exhilarating. Maybe it's seasonal? Maybe the traffic's worse for the evening commute. What do you say?
What's your route through brooklyn?
I find the morning commute more hectic but slower and the evening commute less hectic but faster (riding harder). |
It's def. the ride home for me, generally thats the half of the commute with a tail wind, and not as many gradual inclines.
I voted different every day. There are too many factors for me to pick one. I may be enjoying the ride in but if some cager yells at me then it is ruined and if on the ride home a racoon jumps on my head and gives me rabies I might not be amused.
Alternates.
If I drive, my AM commute is 10 min vs 25-30 on bike, going home due to traffic, it's about 25 whether I'm driving or pedaling. During daylight savings, it's def the commute home. However nowadays, it's generally the ride in- wakes me up for the day, and once I've lifted and showered, I've got a steaming hot thermos of cappucino/latte from my Bialetti that I make before I leave the house. |
For the ride home in wonderful bike "friendly" Starkville Mississippi, I get a nearly 60' overall decent according to gmap-pedometer. Yay for downhills!
The weekend ride is the best. :D
Morning Commute for me is 4 miles uphill. Afternoon commute, I'm burned out, but at least it's downhill.
Morning is mostly uphill, but I'm more tired in the afternoon before the ride home.

Definitely the ride in. Cooler, fewer cars, downhill, generally a tailwind, and I'm fresher.

My job requires that I park my Service Truck in my drive way............... Weekend and evening in summer only is all I have, we got snow and ice now. |
It's different everyday for me. Today was a great ride in, but the ride home had a steady head wind all the way. Sometimes it's the other way around.
Usually the ride home, because if I'm pissed, I can run it like a TT, really get the lead out, and not worry about showing up to work stinky or sweaty.
For me it's a Win/Win.. On the ride in, It's more or less to get paid, for the ride out, it's to get away :D
I have been having blast on the snow and ice, more than I can remember from previous years, not sure why..... |
I put the ride home.
I enjoy both. But I like the ride home better because it is mostly down hill..:D :D |

Love both, but prefer a nice ride home--unless it's dark!

This time of year, I enjoy the ride home more. Take this poll again in July, and you might find that the ride in gets more votes...
I like my ride in the morning the best, but sometimes I like riding home the best. Every day is different.
My ride home is best for me - generally get a tailwind, and it's a lot of downhill, dark or not.
Home this time of year, it is much warmer. Vice versa in summer.
An exception would be when having issues at work or fighting with the wife. |
On the ride in I'm generally pretty happy, thinking about stuff I see, the snow, fairly happy go lucky. On the way home I'm generally preoccupied with something that happened during the day, and I don't get to enjoy the ride as much.
I wouldn't care if it was constant uphill and headwinds every day, I always enjoy going home much more than going to work.
The ride in involves downhills and a tailwind, plus the cagers are less likely to be ******bags. On the way home I have to grunt up hills and false flats all the way to my house. It's good, but not as fun as riding in.
