Did you set a new Personal Record today ?

I thought it would be fun to have a thread where we can all post any new PRs that we set. A good way to receive encouragement and to maybe inspire others too :D

Obviously I wouldn't be starting this thread unless I'd set a PR today, so here it is:

8.97 miles in 34m22s, an average of 15.5 mph

That includes pushing the bike through the building to my office :)

Not the world's fastest cyclist I know, but pretty good considering the difference to when I started this commuting lark just over a year back. That first time it took me just over an hour and I honestly thought I was going to pass out at the top of the steep hill leading away from home - I had to sit down for a few minutes until the world stopped spinning :roflmao: That's what many years of no exercise will do for you :(

Anyway, I hope other people post their new PRs here as further inspiration for me.

No PR's today though I noticed last week when I started keeping track of my time I have shaved 10 min of my commute in the last 2 years :) the tough thing about this morning was to get the bike to stop so I could go into work. What a beautiful ride today!

I PR'd today as well. 18 miles in 56 minutes for an average of 19.5 MPH with a loaded pannier. The best thing is there weren't any tailwinds! (not that I don't welcome a good tailwind but it robs the feeling of satisfaction when you realize it was the wind and not your stellar physique that accomplished the feat).

I've got 12.25 miles each way and I tore that stupid computer off my bike. I gauge my personal best by how terrific I feel after the ride. The variation in my ride time has little to do with personal performance and more to do with the weather and traffic lights. If I gave a strong ride and put pressure on the pedals the whole ride, I feel great. I don't care if I had a 30 MPH headwind slowing me to 13 MPH... With the speed glaring me in the face, I was miserable. Then, with the tailwinds I occasionally get on the way home, I can almost keep up with the 40 MPH traffic. And when I hit the lights just right, even with moderate effort, I'm home in under 40 minutes. In my opinion, personal best in terms of time is more of a roll of the dice, not a benchmark of performance...

Deep down inside I know that's true... but right now I'm still seeing a steady improvement in my times and I love it :) It's the proof to me that exercise works.

my personal best this year was 18.5 km in 26:59...but the best thing to do is to note the times, and you can figure out just how you're doing compared to how you FEEL that you're doing.

Kind of like wearing a pulse monitor every now and again to get a feel for how your heart is pumping along.

happy trails,
Tom

I set a new PR this morning and didn't think I was riding that hard coming it. Perhaps it was the rain that made me ride faster on the flats because I know I took it easy going down the hills. Anyway my door-to-door time for 6.27 miles was 25:12.

Convenient that this thread showed up; I was just logging in to post (brag? :) ) about my PR today.

I managed to average 20.0mph (32.2km/h) on my 23 mile commute this morning. No tailwind (it's calm for the first time this spring!), but some assistance from passing trucks/busses. That doesn't count time spent waiting at traffic lights.

Another PR: I'm coming up on my 1-year anniversary of starting to bike in order to lose some weight. I'm the lightest I've been since high school. I've lost close to 65 lbs since last year (plus 10 lbs on a lighter bike :D ), and over 120 lbs total since Jan. 2000. Last year, riding 2 miles wore me out so bad I had to lay in bed for a half hour to recover!

Oh, and one more: I did my first century this past weekend. Hung with a fast paceline for most of the ride and did 20.8mph for 105 miles. (Admittedly, I never got a chance to take a turn at the front...)

It's going to be a great summer! See you out there.

Wow Norman,

I bet your coworkers don't got on your back about cycling much, do they! 120 lbs is great, but in the process you also added maybe 20 years to your life. Great job!

They were very supportive until I got thinner than them. :)

Looking forward to reading more PRs!

Take care,
Tim

Seems yesterday was PR day for me. First I set a time PR by riding to work in 24:37 whidh shaved over 30 seconds off of my previous PR and on the ride home I set a new PR for max HR. I hit 180 at some point during the ride. My previous max was 176.

PR

Hey all.

I did a trial run for my commute last night and did 7.81 miles
in 36 minutes with an average speed of 13 mph and a maximum
of 20 mph. Not terrible but I did it after work last night I'm
thinking my workday took some energy out of me. My round
trip was about 17 miles.

Then today for the real thing I tried it again: I did 8.17 miles
in 34 minutes with an average speed of 15.2 mph and maximum
of 20 mph.

Oh, and I did the first 3 miles in just under 12 minutes.

I think this is pretty good considering I'm at 513 miles for the
cycling season and my first real commute since '87 (I used to
commute all the time, I didn't drive until I was 27! then I
stopped riding for 8 years. You know the rest).

The biggest delays were traffic once I reached downtown and
the time needed to lock-up the bike, put my stuff away, shower,
dress, etc.

I had a new PR today.... I slept in till 11am..... aint done that for a long time!
